Joachim
Back in the old SP days (IIRC SPWW2)... ME on a city map. One air unit allowed per side. My opponent bought a plt of air transport to rush his troops to the flags in the center of the town. A brilliant maneuver... tough luck he landed on a TRP: I had bought an observation plane that got in arty immediately. For those that don't know - cover in SP depended on speed and terrain... his inf had the speed of the planes and most of it was in the streets. In CM: A plt sized OP convinced me a village with lots of flags was defended. I assembled my forces for 15 turns, dropped arty and slowly probed thru the DF of a 105mm bty a mile away... to find an empty village. PiggDogg
No sneaky maneuvers have ever been used on me by human opponents. When they did something that I had not previously seen and it work against me, those tactics were lessons that I learned. Then, I used it in the next CM game. Cheers, Richard
Glider
Keeping 6 AT and 150mm guns until only two turns remain (I bought *10* on-board mortars for our next game ).
Foobar
I would say don't be afraid to lose a game, don't be afraid to be defeated. Take risks, and examine your opponent's tactics as if you were watching on the sidelines. Play boldly, and play Crazy Go Nuts The most useful thing is discussion after the game to dispel the FOW factor and talk about what actually happened. My favorite "sneaky" tactic was to tell a few squads of mine to "withdraw" behind a ridge. They were in the middle of a pretty heavy village firefight. Well, my opponent thought they had routed, and ran his squads full speed over the crest of the hill, only to get cut to pieces by my waiting squads. So the fake withdraw can come in handy every once in a while. But this result i just described is a happy accident. I was just displacing, I didnt think about ittricking him.
willbell
Here is the sneakiest thing I do, which I learned by frantically searching this forum the night before my second time ever playing Germans on defense (my first time was a route). Put a platoon, or part of one in command, in a postion to sneak around the flank area of the attacking enemy. The attackers don't really expect this. You can get some great recon. If you are far enough out on the edges, and you keep a low profile, you can catch small units, like artillery or MGs from behind. Create some havoc and it tends to cause their advance to falter. It always seems like you can't spare the extra men, but once you take the plunge you almost can't resist doing this. Hint, take advantage of interior lines, which is a lot easier when you have some early recon. If you have fear of humans then spend some time reading the tips and tricks compilation, it is very useful.
