Adamo
I'm in the middle of a PBEM battle and I'm having trouble getting a 50mm mortar unit to fire. I've got an infantry platoon hiding in some trees with the platoon HQ 'hiding' on the edge of the woods so that he has, in his LOS, 3 enemy infantry units about 70 -95 meters away. I have a 50mm mortar unit about 25 meters in back of this infantry platoon but still within command range of the platoon HQ. I always assumed that if a mortar is within command range of an HQ and that HQ has line of sight to an enemy unit, that mortar can indirectly fire on those enemies because the HQ has LOS. However, in this case, when I attempt to get a target with the mortar I keep getting 'Sight Blocked' and cannot get a target. It's true, the mortar itself doesn't have LOS but the HQ does. What's up? adam
YankeeDog
You didn't mention which CM game you are playing, but I'm gussing it's either CMBB or CMAK since in these two games, hiding HQs cannot spot for mortars; unlike in CMBO you must unhide them to spot for on-board mortars. Cheers, YD
AC
And if you don't want your HQ unit to fire, you can set a short cover arc...
Adamo
I'm sorry, I"m playing CMBB. So basically, in my case, I have to 'unhide' the HQ, and then choose 'Target' with the mortar unit and it should be able to fire on those units that are within LOS of the platoon HQ, correct??
flamingknives
Yep. If you want to avoid you spotting HQ getting whacked, set a small cover arc so they don't start shooting at stuff.
