Shooting up trucks

Your medium machine gun has a truck in its sights. The truck is towing a gun and has a mortar as a passenger. Which target do you aim for? If you aim at the truck, will the mortar and/or the gun crew take casualties? Can the medium machine gun take out the truck? Can it knock out the gun or just harm the crew?

Take out the truck, the mmg can definitely do that. Then the gun or whatever will be disrupted and be an easy target.

Agreed. Actually, I'm pretty sure that it is impossible to target embarked units (let me know if I'm wrong on that). Your MG can and will take down the truck in short order (KO or abandon is equally likely). At that point, the passengers and gun will be forced to disembark immediately and you can target whichever you like.

If you take out a HT you often kill the towed gun with it (disrupted crew abandons it). Maybe this is possible for trucks, too.

I know that you can target units embarked on AFVs, don't know about trucks or HTs. But definitely, if you take out the carrying vehicles, the passenger/s will be at least pinned (unless maybe they're crack).
