Beta1
wouldnt it be nice to have a real area target option - rather than the target point that the current one does. Rather than telling your on map howitzer/mortar/etc to fire at this particular point for the whole turn you could tell it to fire at that wood/road/whatever and rather than whacking all its rounds onto a very small point the gun would try and adjust its aim to send rounds into the whole area rather than a specific spot. Maybe it could be done in such a way that it fires at a partilcular tile rather than a specific point. Would be usefull when you know theres an enemy platoon in that wood but you cant actually see them, just target the whole wood and let you gun whack rounds into it...
Mr. Tittles
I would like to see multiple area targets in one turn. So a player could target a treeline by putting three area fire commands at three parts of the treeline. The unit would then divvy up its firing for 20 seconds on each assigned target.
undead reindeer cavalry
have you tried using "target wide" (or something like that) command? it spreads the fire over a larger area. i would love to have my mortars fire INTO woods, instead of just the treeline. kinda stupid.
Mr. Tittles
Thats indirect arty command? target wide? But if the area fire had something similar, it would be OK also.
Holman
"Target Wide" only applies to indirect fire. However, I believe that "area target" direct fire covers a larger zone than just the point at which the line stops. I don't know exactly how large, but I have seen enemy area fire suppress one of my units that was 5-10 meters away from the targeting point. Plus, area fire will often specifically target a unit that becomes visible in its fire zone, so it can fush out a unit and then target it inside of one turn. Area fire from a tank gun will generally aim along the target line, but then it usually has a blast radius, plus the MG will be firing too.
undead reindeer cavalry
you are naturally correct. somehow my damaged brains ignored the "on map" part.
