Startup Error with V1.06 and MP question

Recommended Posts

Right so I am using Vista. Original SC2 v1.00 works fine but when I load in v1.06 and attempt to start I get the following message 'sc2.ini could not find #RESEARCH=' What is a real puzzlement is it loads fine the first time if I do the automatic launch after immediately installing the 1.06 patch before hitting the finish button. The problem occurs when I try to start the game from the desktop icon.

Assistance with the above would be much appreciated.

In addition on going into the multiplayer screen my WAN IP address is not listed. The only address that is listed is the 192.68.x.x. which is no use at all. I'm sure that this issue has been covered many many times before but would be grateful for an appropriate link or two.

Soundoff99,

Can you check to ensure that the desktop icon links to the proper installtion directory of SC2? Sounds like you might have a double installatino and the desktop icon is linking to the older install.

For the WAN IP, if you are located behind a router then it will only show the 192.68.x.x info. There is a way around this by using port forwarding and this should be covered in the manual.

Hope this helps,

Hubert

Nope Hubert

Only have the one installation. Tried opening the game from all relevant icons, desktop, the one in programs and the one in the directory itself. Then did a complete uninstall and reloaded. V1 works fine but as soon as I patch 1.06 I get 'sc2.ini could not find #RESEARCH=' Even tried saving the patch on download before installing rather than doing an auto run but did not made diddly squat difference.

Ah well I can always stick with V1

Best wishes

Mick

No this is not acceptable as v1.06 is much better smile.gif

It is possible then that the v1.06 patch is not applying itself in the right location. Can you confirm that the v1.06 patch installs into the same directory as your original v1.0 installation directory?

Essentially it sounds like the shortcut might be correct but it cannot find the right files so maybe something is not being installed correctly when applying the patch.

Can you confirm that the EXEs are updated when you apply the patch, i.e. do the dates change to more recent ones?
