terrorstraits Posted August 15, 2002 Share Posted August 15, 2002 Strategic Command is using 100% of the CPU from the moment I start the game. Even when the game is on the start up screen. Hungry Joe Posted August 15, 2002 Share Posted August 15, 2002 Hi, Don't know what CPU you've got, but I've had ongoing heat problems with my 1.4 Athlon Thunderbird. I put an extractor fan in the box and this seems to have solved most of the problems. However, SC does seem to really push the CPU, and with the current (all too rare) heatwave we've got in England atm, I've had to run it with the side off the case to let the heat out. This is particularly applicable if you don't have a full size tower, as the airflow from the case fan is often not great. I've got a feeling that the heavy CPU usage probably comes from SC being very optimised for lower end machines. 0 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Hubert Cater Posted August 18, 2002 Share Posted August 18, 2002 Seems as though the adjustments on the latest patch caused the memory leaks, so the current SC patch v1.03 is back to it's original setup with respect to the CPU. It goes to 100% during the computer's turn but drops to near zero while it is wait for me to do something. Hubert Cater Posted August 19, 2002 Share Posted August 19, 2002 OK sounds like you have the first version of patch v1.03, this was as you've probably seen a strange patch of sorts as it caused some huge problems on some systems and nada on others... mine included. If it seems to run fine then I wouldn't worry but if you want to be on the safe side probably best to apply the second version of the patch, although it does use the high CPU cycles so it might be a bit of a toss up.
