H.J. von Arnim
Guys, concerning the evacuation of the "Panzerdivision Hermann Göring" from Sicily to the italian mainland you are talking about "Operation Lehrgang" (commanded by General Hube). Nearly 2.000 AA's secured the movement of the soldiers. JerseyJohn
H.J.vonArnim , My hat's off to you! Thanks for clarifying what promised to be a long trek through the books. I wonder if any Allied pilots attempted to fly through all that flak, and if any did, I wonder if they came out again. Looks like a fine link, struggled through what little German I could get through, but now that I know what the operation was called it should be easy enough to find an account in English. xwormwood
Thank you for the link. Is this a neo-fascist look-a-like-page? I jumped here and there and found some really scary statements there... H.J. von Arnim
Hopefully not - but I do not know....Besides: It's just you and me (and maybe a few others) who understand what's written there.... Schönen Gruß nach Bremen
Piumarcobaleno
Yep, some sentences are truly fascist-like.. Besides, there's a tribute even to the italian Folgore, never hoped to see something like that

When I was in Germany, I learned two key phrases which helped me survive: Ein Bier, Bitte. Vo ist der Toiletten? They seemed to be related. By the way, during the Sicilian evac, wasn't the 15th Panzergrenadier Division and elements of the 1st Parachute Division also evacuated? If I recall the 15th PG was an "elite" unit, do you have any info on this?
H.J. von Arnim
yes, the 15th PG was indeed an "elite-unit" more info may be found on http://www.feldgrau.com/ and: xwormwood and I are NOT living in the same city - nor the same country. it just happens that the 2 of us speak german [ March 20, 2003, 05:43 PM: Message edited by: H.J. von Arnim ]
SeaWolf_48
MR. BOGGS The 15th PG Div. was the 15th PZ Div. in North Africa under Rommel and later Arnim. It was never rebuilt to a Panzer division after Tunis. It fought in Italy after Sicily and surrendered to BR. Eigth Army in Apr '45.
Jim Boggs
HJ and Seawolf: Thanks guys for the info. It's always a pleasure to visit the SC Forum! The old Afrika Korps! Whatever happened to 21st Panzer and 90th Light? If I recall didn't 21st Panzer launch the ONLY armoured counterattack on D-Day in Normandy? xwormwood
H.J. von Arnim sorry, my mistake (oh stupid me, sob sob). I feel stupid now. Oh stupid me. You wrote "nach", not "aus". The shame, the shame. Greetings to glorious Vienna / Austria from a regretfull little german Beck's Bier consument.
