james l henry
hello - i am new to this game and enjoy. i have created several quick battles using the automatic as opposed to my own selection process. in these i have requested that battles be conducted with fog but when i paly the scenario the conditions appear to be normal although the word fog does appear on the battle info screen. i have toggled weather effects on but still nothing which looks like fog. what gives? Terence
Might be your video card is not up to the fog effect. What are you using?
JasonC
Even if your video card can't handle the fog display, the fog game effects are still there. To see this, just use the LOS tool, and "look around" over a wide stretch of open ground. You will find the line gets dimmer with distance, and goes to black - no LOS - after a modest distance (50-200 yards, depending on the light as well as the thickness of the fog). james l henry
Thanks for the answers a) i havent a clue about my vid card i was able to spot a tank around 200 metres away which seems to be unlikely if it was foggy. i will try with thick fog and see what happens i can see snow effects (if that helps further)
Herr Oberst
Beware the random weather options... I played a meeting engagement QB on full auto (weather and troops), and ended up as the Amis trying to snoop out German SMG troops and light guns with 28 meters of visibility. Ouch! With no such thing as mutually supporting positions, I randomly shelled where my troops weren't with my off map mortar assets, and ran a very close platoon-sized infantry escort for the two Shermans that I was given. I did catch one of his SPW's, putting my 75mm shell straight through the tail-end at 22 meters. Quite a bloody fight all in all. Casualties as a percentage were very high on both sides. Mud
*grumble* Using MSFT Windows? Start Menu -> Control Panel -> Display -> probably Advanced Properties, et al. Go find out what your video card is. Then you might want to search the Tech Forum for it (to save you some time: apparently, if it's an ATI, not seeing fog is normal due to driver issues). Thick/thin fog will make a difference, and it seems likely that the game is fully aware of the fog since it's mentioning it in the info screen. You can also pick night if you want to cut down on LOS...
james l henry
right - the fog (which i cant see) is definitely limiting visibility but what is disappointing is that i can see all terrain features which makes the scenario a bit false. i shall check the vid card as directed. thanks all
Loke
Try to make it work! Fog makes the battlefield seem very creepy. My favourite visual...
