SybotCB
Question here from a Wargaming Newbie. I wanna know the origin of two words. 1) Grog, grognard (whatever other implementation of the word) 2) Peng (And why that means your allowed to taunt and slander people (In good fun of course). Thank you for your support. (Preferably 14" Naval Guns). Chris
Jasper
grognard - origins from the French army (Napolean) - translates to "grumbler" (or whiner whatever). Self applied title for people that Know More Than You.
Terence
hey, the way I heard it, Napoleon's Imperial Guard were called the Grognards or "groaners." I think it comes from the relentless bitching that those long time campaigning soldiers did. Over the years, it has somehow come to be applied to wargamers with healthy/obsessive (depending on your point of view) interest in the minutiae and detail of armies and combat. on the other, Im not qualified to discuss the Peng Thread. As to source, Well MrPeng is a bit of a celebrity, read the "Of cabbages and Kings" http://www.battlefront.com/discuss/Forum1/HTML/003957.html thread and Seanachai started the whole misbagosh....blame him ------------------ If frogs had uzi's, snakes woudn't mess with them so much. - Hiram [This message has been edited by jd (edited 03-14-2001).]
