Herr Kruger
Okay, I was digging back in the dead threads a bit, and read somewhere that the Panzershreck was the evolution of the Puppchen, and if so, was the Shreck really a copy of the Bazooka, just better, or more of an evolution from the Puppchen. Fieldmarshall
I'd say kinda both, but later in the war the Bazooka outclassed the Schreck because it had much better range then the latter. But overall penetrating power all the time was the schreck no doubt. The schreck was developed from copies of bazookas and also was demanded for a lighter weight AT weapon. The Puppchen was developed to replace the outdated AT Rifles. Then the Germans just took it a step further.
offtaskagain
Since when did the zook have better range? The schreck was occasionally used for lobbing rounds onto MG nests 500 meters away.
Iron Chef Sakai
i agree, the panzershrek was a better weapon
Slapdragon
I think he is thinking about the 57 recoiless. The 57 recoiless was not a bad weapon, portable, deadly to mediums, good HE, and much longer range, but it was not primarily used as an antitank asset. More often, it was used as a verticle mortar to suss out snipers.
Panzer Leader
I think I read somewhere that the panzerschreck was made after capturing bazooka's from the Russians who obtained them through lend-lease, however, I don't know if they discovered the bazooka before or after the invention of the puppchen. I would say after, since the tecnology of the puppchen was well known to all from the outset -- it was the hand-held evolution that the Germans got from the bazooka. offtaskagain
I'm pretty sure the first zooks were captured in North Africa. I don't belive more than a few were sent to Russia.
