Some changes

Recommended Posts

I have some changes I would like to see made in CM2 (can't wait smile.gif ) or, better yet, first in an upgrade of CM.

The first is a small change. Now, I'm new to this forum, and someone else may have pointed these things out, so forgive me if they did. First, the grenades in the game seem kind of weak. For example, I watched about 20 US soldiers chucking grenades at 3 hiding MG 42 crewman and they, in return, threw grenades back. The 42 crew was just barely in a forested area. This went on for several turns without killing anyone and eventually the Germans surrendered. Of course, I also had a tank shooting a MG at them as well without effect. Either make grenades stronger or make the hiding troops more vulnerable.

Second, and this is a big change. Please create realistic water. The water looks nice, but does not function like water. I tried using my Creator to recreate the D-Day invasion. It was great except for the fact that the 88 kept taking out boats without even hitting them. The shell would hit the water at a good distance away, explode like it hit land, and destroy the boat. What should have been just a splash became a deadly hit. This would greatly improve realism and make new scenarios possible. Plus, we could possibly make soldiers and tank plow through water up to a certain depth. Just a suggestion.

Anyway, thanks for the great game just the same. Keep up the good work.

For one thing what do you mean make it more realistic water? You can't re create a D-Day landing if you read the manual you would know that the boats are made of wood!

As said above the boats are made of wood! The water is they way it is because it no just for a shallow beach landing. Its trying to represent a river of even a lake. And with CMs curent system there is no way to set water levels. It could be done but BTS say no more updates for CM1. And CM2 is the Eastern front... not much water there. Maybe after the game engine re-wright

As a workaround, you could edit the 88's ammo load so it only had AP - that way the close ones wouldn't hurt the boats.

It's hard to imagine, high explosive rounds destroying overloaded row boats. tongue.gif

Barton, if you ever see pictures of some of the boats used in the smaller river crossings you'll see they are completely unrealistic to use as Higgins boat replacements in D-day scenerios. All the assault boats are are small canvas or wood sided rowboats.

It seems the best way to replicate a D-day landing mission is to just start the troops out already on the beach. You can use the unit edit function to set all troops to panic, cautious, weary or what ever state you need to simulate the wade to the beach. To simulated further waves with reinforcements come in with 5% to 15% chance per turn of arrival, to simulate the confusion. Or at least this what I've done and seen done be others to recreate D-day.

Or we can just lobby BTS to add the Higgins boat in a patch!

Thanks for the great suggestions. I'll try those ideas

And by the way, I realize that the boats are small, wooden rowboats. I just felt it would be pretty cool to watch a bunch of boats storm the beach, drop off troops, and see D-Day happen. What I did to counter-act the fact that they are small, slow boats was just put out a whole crapload of them. That way they drop off just as many troops on the beach. Plus, I was just using this scenario as an example of the potential of having water that is realistic instead of just impassible ground. Some splash affects would be pretty cool smile.gif .

Once again, thanks for the help
