Why StuG-IV uses Stug-III 3d model?

Recommended Posts

I just looked a pictures of StuG-III and StuG-IV. They have different chassis and different amount of roadwheels.

But in CM Stug-IV has PzKw-III hull and suspension, why?

CM StuG-IV looks like Stug-III IMHO.

PzKw-IV chassis has 8 roadwheels PzKw-III has

6.

Well illo, this is not a CM issue.

It looks like you've installed a mod that 'equalized' them.

In fact, the CM engine has different BMPs for both hull-types:

#3270.bmp for StuG III suspension

#4600.bmp for StuG IV suspension

I've searched the mod archive on my HDD and

had a close look on the different StuG mods:

The following sets have different files for StuG III and IV:

- CM original

- MDMP2.zip (Madmatt)

- fernandowinterstug.zip (Fernando S. Carrera)

- winterstug.zip (Maximus)

These sets share one file for both:

- stugtan.zip (bfamily33)

- stugpanzergrayjohns.zip (Tiger)

- stug_h foliage_johns.zip (Tiger)

- stug_stuh_by tiger.zip (Tiger)

Hope that helps

Marcus

BTW, no offence to any mod author intended- they all did great work to improve the game

for us. Keep up the good work - all of you.

Why? Probably just too tired one night and missed it, including subsequent ones since I referred back to the first one. Here's a corrected bmp:

ps If you want the previous ones corrected let me know. It should be fairly easy to do now. smile.gif

ok try it now

Tiger,

It's that speed of mod-ding (and replying to requests), why you are one of the greatest.

Thank you.

Some think my last drab-yellow ones were too bright but I don't think they are. A number of people have suggested that not all German AFVs had camo.

Oh well here's the former with the latter ;p

illo,

In direct answer to your question, BTS did not have time to make a unique StuG IV model.

The solution was to com-press 8 Pz IV road wheels onto the the side of an ordinary StuG III.

A satisfactory solution I guess, but in reality the differences where many more than just the number road wheels.

The size difference between the hulls make the StuG superstructure (designed for the Pz III chassis) look a little odd on top of the Pz IV chassis.

A very noticeable difference was the protruding drivers station. The poor integration of the drivers position is a clear indication of the ad hock nature of this vehicle.

However, as I indicated above, to get it all would require a unique 3D model.

M.
