Kirill S.
This is a question about hollow (or is it HEAT?) rounds piercing the armor. I've read a story by one of Afghanistan (Russian 1980s) and he said that it took 5 seconds for a charge to melt the armor and destroy a tank. If the crew didn't bail out during those 5 seconds, they were a hamburger. Is it true? Does it really take 5 seconds to pierce (or melt) the armor? In cmbo the tanks get knocked out instantly. Is it true because of T80's thick armor comparing to the tanks of ww2?
Bad Monkey!
I think you're confusing HEAT rounds with a thermite grenade or some other exothermic device. HEAT rounds are fairly instantaneous. If you've ever seen a video of an anti-tank missile destroying a tank, you've seen a HEAT warhead in action. The only diffence between modern HEAT and the WW2 version is scale and method of delivery.
