armor penetration of modern rounds?

Recommended Posts

I did a search just for fun, but couldn't find any specific info on this. I read somewhere that modern HEAT rounds can penetrate 600mm of steel at 0 degrees.

Does anyone know the armor penetration of today's modern APFSDS rounds?

It's interesting to put the power of yesteryear's King Tigers into perspective...

Well penetratrators & armor technology have come along way since WW2 but below will give you a rough idea of the increases in penetration since WW2:

8.8cm KwK.43 Pzgr.40/43 APCR

100m - 237mm

1000m - 197mm

2000m - 152mm

US M829A1 APFSDS-DU

100m - 760mm

1000m - 690mm

2000m - 620mm

US M829A2 APFSDS-DU

100m - 870mm

1000m - 810mm

2000m - 740mm

Soviet/Russian 3BM32 APFSDS-DU

100m - 620mm

1000m - 570mm

2000m - 520mm

Remember this is a rough estimate their are no published in stone pen data for todays APFSDS-rounds as their are for WW2 KE ammunition.

As for MPAT Multi Purpose Anti Tank & HEAT-MP Ie, the US M830 rounds penetration is around 600mm, the Russian 3BK29 125mm HEAT rounds is around 630mm, HEAT penetration is also effected by ERA etc.
