:USERNAME:
Whats the point of vehicles having a set 300 meter range when other weapons seem to have variable ranges? It would be nice if this was variable depending on unit experience.
Jarmo
I was going to post about this myself. Especially bothersome, as there's plenty of tank killer vehicles that are meant to be used for ambushes. (Hetzer, marder, others) Typical ambush range would have been a whole lot longer than 300m. Also, I'd like the ability to define AT-only-ambush, so that my AT gun woudn't start blasting at the first scout to cross the marker. ------------------ Now, would this brilliant plan involve us climbing out of our trenches and walking slowly towards the enemy sir? Claymore
I Second the motion... Tank Hunters regularly set up to interdict an enemy's line of advance or choke points from distances far in excess of 200m. Good thread...and one that has been on my mind for some time now... Guest Offwhite
I recall a discussion from a month or so ago wherein it was stated that setting an AFV ambush point establishes more of a direction than a range for the unit to give attention to. In other words if the AFV sees enemy vehicles 100m past the ambush point it is likely to fire immediately rather than wait for the enemy to touch the ambush spot. I've used the command this way several times and haven't had trouble with distance (but I don't deny the possibility that you gents or others have). Claymore
I had a problem with just that my last PBEM turn. My German AC (Veteran-20mm) had an ambush point at max distance. The expected enemy HT came out from behind some trees about 300m beyond the ambush point but about 10 degrees off the axis of my AC to Ambush line. Result: No ambush and now the AC has to back up and track down that pesky HT.

They don't hide well, so ambush is almost pointless anyway. But with AT guns I do have problems. They won't open up as soon as they see an AFV. That's correct of them, BTW. ------------------ Now, would this brilliant plan involve us climbing out of our trenches and walking slowly towards the enemy sir? Malmvig
Hmm - lately I had another problem with ambushes. It seems that my some of my units sometimes forgets it's ambush marker. Once, I had to setup the ambush tree times (once for every order phase) before the marker was keept in place. Another unit had it's marker keept in place all the time. I don't see why the difference. But the lenght painted in blue is still something that I am not habit with. Henrik Malmvig
