CaSCa
Would someone care to educate me on the history of these formations? Why and when were they formed? What was their typical role? They can be used to great effect in short range situations and I am curious about their historical origins. -edited for spelling [This message has been edited by CaSCa (edited 12-08-2000).]
Snoop
You should watch the movie Stalingrad. I think the main German unit was a Sturmgruppe Company.
Guest jaja
There was one per German division. They were an assault unit made up of different smaller units such as engineers.
Chief
These get a prominent mention in the official US Army history of the Bulge. As described there, they were companies meant for the assault, with a high proportion of automatic weapons. By the time of the Bulge, I presume that this meant alot of MP44s. I can't recall whether they were always formed from divisional troops or were special formations. I'll hafta go look. ------------------ Also los, Augen zu, und hinein! Olle Petersson
The origins of the stormtroopers were a long time ago in a galaxy far away... The Stormtroopers are coming! Cheers Olle
CaSCa
Sorry, Olle, I was referring to the kind of StormTrooper that could actually hit their target when firing.
Olle Petersson
Are you sure about that? At least they've got plenty of time to exercise and improve their marksmanship before WW2. Perhaps you're unaware of the way to make a good longbow archer: Start by training his great great grand-father. (It takes a couple of generations...)
