Missing Squad Types in CM

Recommended Posts

I wouldn't mind seeing the 10th Mountain Division's troops added in, but I guess they would fall into the "specialist" groups. My Uncle was in the 10th Mountain, BAR gunner. I'll get a picture of his old ass and we can model him in! biggrin.gif

What, exactly, is so horrible about having some special unit types in? I mean, they add so much, and detract so litte. I loved playing around with Rangers and Commandos in Steel Panthers. What I liked even more about Steel Panthers was that you could edit the squad's armament and names.

Well I guess what could be a problem aer QBs in which you suddenly only encounter Rangers/Commandos if they are better equipped. Bit like the German players using a lot of FJs and GJs. But other than that...

Yes but those people are prats and will always make stupid prattish decisions. For the rest of us, the option should be there, it'd make the game more fun. Ha HA, take that BTS! More work for you! Yahahahaha! And while you're at it, model the bovine MG42 sponge!

Is prattish a word? Doesn't matter, the argument still works. Disclaimer: I love Charles and Steve, these guys are, quite possibly, the closest things to the embodied spirit of early computer/board/RPG gaming. I demand they work 23 hours a day so that they can revolutionize other fields. Afterward, they will be deified and will reside somewhere beautiful (Buenos Ares is good, I hear) as god-kings.

Did someone compare this to the Ealing comedies? I've shot people for less.

Folks...

We have to draw the line somewhere. We decided to NOT include "special forces" that were of less than divisional organization. That excludes Rangers, Commandos, and God only knows how many oddball German formations smile.gif If there were dozens of these sub-divisional units fighting, that would be different. But...

Here is a link that goes into some Ranger unit histories during WW2. Hopefully BTS will come to the conclusion that the Rangers fought in significant, if not huge numbers throughour the campaign.

Keep working at it Steve, when you get all of it, we promise to elevate you to God-King status. I mean, come on, who doesn't want a big temple built in their name?

Funny,

I remember bringing this one up awhile back.

I don't really see much difference between

ranger and airborne squads, so substitution

should suit the designer well. Armoured

infantry(US) on the other hand,......

Well, there IS something to that.

The AInf Bn was closer to the '45 pattern

(2 BAR,2(or 3).45 SMG)in '44 than the

standard '44 Inf pattern. I always wondered

why they weren't included........

Sounds reasonable. I think it is unfortunate, but I guess you gotta draw the line at some point, and less than divisional size seems reasonable.

Still would like to see US Armored Infantry units (not just squads), and some SMG-type squads, to represent the fact that the actual equipment of a US line unit was often very different from its TO&E.
