I want to see dead men

Recommended Posts

Yo,

I can understand that the squads only displayed with 2 - 3 men, but I would prefer if I could see all dead men, not only the one when the whole squad is eliminated - that would be only more static graphics like craters.

No, not because I'm pervert - the doctors says I'm doing much better already ;). But it would improve the observation of infantery casualities VERY much more then then the small number in the units display!

We went through this can of worms many months ago (before the Gold Release), and there were MANY arguments on each side. BTS basically decided to use the current system to provide a pointer to the location of the "dead" squad. Do a search for the entire detailed - and heated - threads on this subject.

How?

I've seen this argument come up everytime we have one of these "dead men" threads, and I still can't understand how someone can determine unit status by the number of dead bodies on the ground.

How does one determine the number of men left alive in squad F-3 by the bodies laying on the ground? Are they all from F-3? maybe a couple of them are from F-2, who knows?

I really am curious to know how that improves my observation.

to tanker, where does it say using the search engine is mandatory you are worse than a third grade teacher correcting someone for saying "who"...an telling them to say "whom".

stop acting like a traffic cop on this forum,

we've definetly got too many of them here already....relent!

Well, I searched and found the answers.

Nevertheless - of course I can proof my own casualities very easy by using the units info display - I thought more on my opponents casualities.

Well, BTS don't want dead-body graphics, so I guess we can spare us the rest of the discussion.

"let the seach/non search flame fest begin "

Umm, NO lets NOT in fact do that.

This guy asked a question which he would like an answer to. There is nothing wrong with that.

Now then, this just happens to be a topic in which probably a good 10% of all the 100,000 posts on this board have touched on in one way or the other. So it is understandable that someone would ask that he search.

Let me give you the short version.

Dead in the game (the little cross symbol) does not neccesarily mean DEAD as much as it means incapcitated or no longer able to function effectively in combat. Therefore it does not make sense to drop bodies all over willy nilly when the guy's are not dying. A design decession was made to allow for an Eliminated Unit graphic (the guy on his back) to be displayed when the unit was totally redered combat ineffective. This was thought to make the most amount of sense from an information standpoint and was not done for any other reason.

This games scale is not aimed at man to man but to platoon/company engagements and larger. As such, the exact position of every wounded and dead man is not needed as it is out of the desired focus and design. Knowing where a unit lost it's ability to continue fighting however, is valuable info.

One last thing, you need to keep an eye on your men. I have never understood how people could "lose" a squad or a team or say that they didn't "know" what happened to a unit as regards to casulities. It's called leadership people and it will separate the good players from the bad just as it does in real life.

You're right if you display the deads in an 1:1 basis (i.e. 12 deads for an American squad) but what do you think about displaying a dead for every squad soldier ICON so every eliminated squad leaves just three deads (a dead icon appears when a squad soldier icon disappears)? It doesn't clutter the map and you can still get some info about where the loses were taken.

Steel Rain, I certainly didn't intend to start a flame war smile.gif In fact, I think I answered Scipio's question - I just didn't want to retype the entire discussion! LOL! No need to go over THAT mess again...I just thought Scipio would rather read BTS' comments right from the horse's mouth. I'd have copied their post myself, but realized that I was halfway out the door at work when after posting my initial answer to his question...

Doh! I forgot the reason I started to post that last one...I must be going senile already. I really like Fernando's idea of symbolizing each icon with a marker. I tend to lose men in large groups like that anyway (or entire squads!)

Mark.. Your looking out the window again.

We are the inebriated, undisciplined mob inside this damp, dark cesspool. Covered in filth and promoting all kinds of illuminatist ideals.

The people with the pitchforks are clearly on the outside. Lucky for us the grate is too small for a grogs head to fit through. wink.gif

Some things just are not going to happen no matter how much you want them or argue about them. Does anyone think that this may be one of these things?

I wonder because I have read many threads asking for things and BTS says it won't happen but after a few days the same argument pops up again.
