minmax
Good point on the cost of ATGMs vs a hunk of depleted uranium (now I know why tankers glow in the dark). Good point Duke about the human factor besides that your A-gunner who is humping your re-loads is often not where you need them when the poop hits the perverbial fan. I still think a 4km ATGM on a tank would be a good idea. The side saddle ICM thats a bit scary for the grunts that are operating with the tanks. Tankers seldom know or care where brother mud foots are in proximetry to their 65 ton security blanket. Armor vs Speed is the real issue not just speed of movement but the speed with which the crew works together circa the auto loader (Soviet) vs. human loader (United States) debate. Remeber when the M-1 was a new kid on the block, the well trained, experienced Marine M60A3s won the European tank gunnery competitions in the middle and late 80s. Why? b/c of flawless crew coordination. That really pissed off the Frogs and Limeys. I enjoyed great liberty in Brussels as an officials adjutant. Which means I made coffee at 0430 for the referees headed out and I shut off the lights in the main briefing tent at 2230. The rest of the time I discovered one of Europe's best kept secrets the beautiful women of Flanders. Sorry, I digress what were we talking about?
