Just my luck...(can't run demo)

Recommended Posts

I can start it up, choose the scenario and stuff, but then when it goes to load the scenario, it says "Loading 3d Graphics" or something, and it freezes after about 30 seconds.

Now, I'm assuming this is because I don't have a 3d-card, but I ran the beta w/ out one.

I'm sorry if this has been discussed already, I just don't seem to have patience these days to use the search function. Sorry ahead of time. smile.gif

Let me know. Thanks.

I noticed something similar, but not quite as grim. When I try to start the Gold Demo, the program exits without any error message, returning me to the Finder.

This occurs on a Power Macintosh G3, 266 MHz (and also on a 300 MHz machine). These are the original beige G3 machines, running MacOS 9.0.4. The graphics card is made by ATI and runs the Mach 64. Slightly different models of card in the two machines.

I notice that the following cleared up my freezing problem although it mine usually occurs after this with moving around the field. I would appreciate it if someone else would try this.

Disable the backside cache. It seems to clear up my problems. This can be done using the G3/G4 Cache Profiler from Powerlogix http://www.powerlogix.com

Guest Ol' Blood & Guts

Tom Servo, you may have to run in 640x480 Software mode. Try that. Delete the prefs file and wait for it to cycle through to Software mode and try it then.

Without a 3D card, that might be your only choice.

Aha! Changing resolution was what allowed the game to start. (I haven't had time to actually try playing it.)

For reference, I have a SVGA monitor attached to one Macintosh and an AppleDisplay attached to a different one. I just experimented with the SVGA monitor version.

640x480 mode seems to work

800x600 mode seems to work

1024x768 mode fails
