Kestrl
I"ve enjoyed using the Gliderborne platoons and companys but i have one question what are the basic weapons of a Gliderborne platoon. Does anyone know if the Bren gun can be fired from a bipod and what is the effective range?
KiwiJoe
Yes... and I thought the range was up to 750 metres, may be wrong. [This message has been edited by KiwiJoe (edited 09-14-2000).]
Olle Petersson
quote:
Originally posted by Kestrl: ... what are the basic weapons of a Gliderborne platoon.

I don't know the exact composition, but it's about the same as regular rifle platoons.
quote:
Does anyone know if the Bren gun can be fired from a bipod and what is the effective range?

It not only can but generally should be fired from a bipod, although it's possible to handle it without support. Range of 750m (using bipod) seems a bit high. Possibly against large targets like a dense cluster of enemies. Against individuals I'd guess range is closer to 500m. (This also depends a lot on what definition of effective range is used. Weapons usually have a longer effective range in the US, since US army allows a lower hit/penetration rate to call a weapon "effective". The definition of effective range used by the Swedish army is that a trained, average skilled and talented, shooter shall have 50% hits at that range when shooting unopposed at known distance.)
