kevinkin
These outfits were used to transport ammo and for light repair and maintenance. In the context of CM game play, I imagine their role to be HQ protection and perhaps protecting or securing objectives at mission's end. With their demo charges, were they asked to go after bunkers? Given a support function, would their experience and leadership be set a notch lower than the rifle companies? Seems being asked to haul ammo vs. assaulting bunkers are very different assignments requiring much different levels of training etc.. Thanks. Rafter11
One of the best accounts I have read regarding WWII infantry battalion operations is "The Clay Pigeons of St Lo" by COL Glover S Johns. It is a great read. Johns used his Pioneer platoon to build and secure a waterproof BN command post so he could fight his battalion without the rain screwing up the commo he needed to defend his rifle companies with artillery. If you are interested, the book is Kindleized.
kevinkin
Thanks. I am on my second copy. It is a classic. If you come across anything related to their use in assault combat please post. I have not as of yet. Kevin
