It details perhaps the largest systematic recycling and repurposing effort ever mounted, with concomitant astronomic savings for the Army--billions in then year dollars! I'd read about efforts to do things like keep desperately needed trucks running by rigorous salvage and cannibalization, also had seen something in which completely wrecked boots were refurbished to as new, but they were nothing compared to this.
