Ultradave
It's a bit of a side note, but AIUI, the formation type a unit is from doesn't make the blindest bit of difference to how hard they are (except perhaps in the default "typical" values assigned to the "soft" parameters, I don't know about that); that's all in the "soft" parameters. Were the crews in question "Veteran, +1 morale, +1 leadership"? It's entirely possible to design scenarios with Conscript, Poor, -2 airborne. Wouldn't be "right", but they'd be as useless as plain old Infantry with the same stats. Oh, I know, I know - just ragging on the troops in game since I'm an ex-paratrooper myself and disappointed with the performance of my electronic troops right now :-)
Michael Emrys
Have you ever meticulously set up your forces at setup only to realize after you've hit GO that all your (wheeled) armor is enclosed by low stone walls with no exit point? No, I make it a point to go over any map I am thinking of using before I even purchase my force. One time I did go with a map that had a wall between where I intended to set up my armor and the place I wanted to go. So I also bought a platoon of engineers to blast breaches in said wall. But that didn't turn out so well because the blasting left rubble that my vehicles, especially the wheeled ones, were reluctant to drive over. I blame the map designer.
