LukeFF
Umm yeah, ouch, that hurt. I didn't even come close to winning this one. Once Easy company got stopped cold at the enemy trenches, I attempted a wide flanking maneuver with Fox company to the left (not having a lot of gaps in the bocage didn't exactly help, though). That worked alright (I got most of them to the exit zone), but there was no way I was going to take the village objective with the time left on the clock. Then of course after the mission I saw what awaited me in the village. That, and the artillery was just brutal on this mission. So, for those of you who beat this mission, what your key to success?

Ranger33
Go left with the main body of your force, then around back to the village. If you try to advance beyond the trenches with just infantry you will get wrecked by the counter-attack. Send maybe 2 platoons and some tanks along the road on your right flank and they can fight through most of that first village (at least on my playthrough). I also used a large opening barrage to wipe out those 88's, otherwise I wouldn't recommend venturing to the far end of the map. I didn't "win" this mission so much as I sprawled my force all over the map and somehow killed more Germans than men I lost.

Yeah, attempting to do a frontal assault from the trenches was definitely one of my mistakes. I had my Shermans supporting them, but two of them were knocked out by one of the 88s that somehow survived the Priest artillery barrage and by one of the StuGs. When I backed them out of the treeline and out of sight of the village, the Germans rained down artillery fire on them. Not good at all. Seeing how I got most of Fox company to the exit zone by flanking left, I now realize that's what I should have done with Easy company and the Shermans. In essence, I broke my number one rule of assaulting an objective: if possible, never attack frontally but rather to the flanks. Ah well, on to Sicily for a while. I hear the Italians are pushovers.
