I must say, I love the scenario valley of ashes, but there is a lot do and not a lot of time. I think it’s one of the slower playing scenarios due to size and the number of commands required each turn. It’s likely too big for a tournament where the majority of players are so uncommitted.

The scoresheet for this tournament on the slitherine site is interesting. It appears that number one received two surrenders and that probably 12 or 13 games will not even start. Of the games that are going, very few are going to finish without ceasefires.
I reckon most of the field will be eliminated from overall contention by either no shows or slow play.

Your analogy is flawed. Russia is an aggressor. Israel is not. Israel is besieging a military target that is firing rockets and hiding an army. Whether the Gazans are human shields or not is on Hamas. The entirety of Gaza is a weapons free zone for targeting and it will all be legal.

We all feel bad when we have to shoot a rabid dog. But obviously, Israel cannot be expected to live next to baby murderers. War is hell, But it’s much worse if you lose. We’ve seen this movie before. Don’t awaken your giant of an enemy and fill them with a terrible resolve.

My games are moving slow as my oppo is tied down in other parts of his life. We are on about turn 30 and I got one of these messages.

im discording with my oppo who said he completed turns but they did not show in my folder and I am troubleshooting with him now.
thank you to artkin and elvis. my email has always been there. ill keep an eye on behavior and see if i stay connected in this round. what i suspect now is that if you have any break in connection while playing a turn, you are hosed.
thanks to our perennial champ for the instructions above. however, this is obviously an issue for both old and new players and a more specific set of play instructions needs to be issued to support PBEM++ tournament play.

Like Artkin, I do NOT stay connected to the slitherine server and have to constantly re-log in. I sometimes lose orders and must replay turns, having been logged out while issuing orders.
Is there a setting anywhere that would impact this ? Even on the web site, I am logged out of their forum constantly. maybe a browser setting in win 11?
my network is a Comcast business gig plus business line and the monitoring software says that it is Gucci.
this is a potential issue as I have been issued warnings in the past because downloading a turn more than once is not allowed.
any advice is greatly appreciated.

i saw that some of the top games did not finish and I find that a little weird.

Congratulations @BFCElvis for besting me in overall points in our games. You were an excellent opponent in every way and both of these games were fantastic.
my uncons just couldn’t get it done. I know some folks like playing with frustratingly underarmed and incompetent pixeltruppen, but that’s not my style. The match began with a nice massacre ambush as your guys materialized on my gun sites in turn 1. But, then as things moved on, My IED gunner was lit up trying to light the IED, and that was disappointing. He had two strykers in front of his IED. I tried my luck with long range rpg shots and using a technical blockade on the bridge to slow your advance and that did not work out very well. Uncons have sh*t marksmanship. Once the rpg gunners were out of ammo it was time to run and hide the points. And run and hide we did. I was backed up into the last hidey holes on the back of the map.
once I realized how fragile the uncons truly are, my US strategy was to kill them all, and I nearly did, leaving only two alive. But only after Elvis used his uncons to brilliantly overrun my scouts, killing almost all of them. When the rescue platoon arrived, I was seeing red and we decided to ‘do the whole village’ and despite heavy losses we went house to house and killed almost every damn dirty uncon we could lay our gunsites on.
I did not think I would like this scenario but ended up enjoying it immensely.
@BFCElvis did a great job commanding those uncons.

Rifle ballistics would appeal to me much more than a SMG were I a pixeltruppen. Personally, I would rather be farther away plinking with mosin than fighting Germans house to house with my pistol caliber sub gun.

I’ve had issues since the latest steam update.
try clicking anywhere on/into the windowed game while it’s starting. That seems to get my games going. I am experiencing it a rock all titles.

Roger that. My old *** got mugged by a pack of mangy uncons. I’m sure you are seeing what I am trying to do with my Americans ? Not sure that worked.
I am really quite bad at commanding uncons. They have no skills, no marksmanship, low ammo and really nothing but big brass balls. Yours OTOH, did quite well in CQB so I just learned a nuanced lesson with them.
I still predict a lot of death before this is over. It is my sincere desire to now kill everyone in this town.

With modern 7.62 NATO black tip AP, it would eat brick walls for sure. 30 cal turns cover into concealment.
not sure what it does in 8mm Mauser and I’m also sure bullet tech in wwII was not as good as modern NATO 30 cal.
all that being said, I doubt you’d feel safe behind a wall if someone was pounding away at it with a MMG.

i think if you stay on your feet, you could probably defeat several hundred. so that will be my plan here. don't get swarmed and overmatch whomever we locate.

I got this machine around thanksgiving last year:

It has been playing CM on all the modern titles and biggest maps/scenarios with reshade and has yet to puke.
I got mine for under $500 so watch for sales. I have built 3 gaming computers over the years and this one is not as fast as a desktop. It has a low end Nvidia GTX1650 mobile processor but it has zero issues running CM. It does all my other chores well too. If you are looking to hit the easy button, this machine is legit.

I did a lot or iracing back when I was driving and one of the things they did to clean up their races and sort out the riff raff was to require licenses.
I’m not sure what the CM equivalent would be. However, we are at least gaining a track record and data that can be used to refine the match ups.
