Well that changes your enjoyment of it.  But thats not the definition of game play.  I use reshade of various types in most of my games.  But I play the games the exact same way.  Can you point out how you play CM differently with reshade.  Give me a before and after, if you can.

I spend way more time in the drivers seats and in the foxholes with my teams. The eye candy combined with mods are just way more enjoyable than the stock game. I don’t know what else to say. More time with the troops means more detail for me as commander. I often pick up sound contacts or find a LOS I would have missed if I wasn’t engrossed in the movie.

  2. howdy friends

Lately, I have been experimenting with 2 things in the editor to help balance forces and address these issues.  Totally obvious things that I have recently reminded myself of.

    1.  Curating weapons, loadouts and upgrading or downgrading vehicles or infantry.  Scarce ammo and green gunners can detune vehicles and create difficult command choices.

    2.  Using weather to limit visibility and  drone/thermal sights.

@Artkin has a point imo. Although I did not get it when he offered me a match as a rank noob. I understand the game dynamics a little better and I get ‘it’ a little more now.

However, I think you have to have design your games so that they require as few ‘non-enforceable’ game rules as possible. If it can built into the game within the constraints we have, then it should be. There are many iterations of force and weather combinations that can even up forces and provide good gameplay.

where I am at now is that I do prefer CMBS and experimenting with ‘modern problems’.  I also value the creativity and ingenuity of my PBEM oppo and my attitude is that I can fight  or recover from any challenge, if it’s interesting, so I tend go with few rules other than to not bomb setup zones in ME.   I have been prejudiced lately against super strong or upgraded vehicles.  auto-cannons are vexing me lately. We all have our favorites. lol.   I think we all need to be as flexible as possible, especially in CMBS as we will be making our own fun until they revamp another modern title for us.   PS, I appreciate my PBEM oppo and playing the AI is not satisfying imo.

  3. I still play CMBS in PBEM and there are some cool aspects of modern warfare you can model in CMBS.

but I agree with not updating right now.

More to the point, CMBS should probably be replaced with a commercial version of CM pro with Petruvians and Denovians and with  n the weapons set spanning CMCW thru CMSF2 & CMBS.

  4. I only play PBEM and tournaments and there is only one casualty I care about! ;)

replaying turns to get better luck does actually seem like a Groundhog Day type of hell.

these are just pixeltruppen and they will gladly give their little digital lives for me and the glory…

  5. Wow.  2/3 or your tournament games are shot ?!  Terrible

maybe next tournament slitherine can look at our history when assigning oppo.  Assign those that play regularly  against others who play regularly.  Maybe the starting ladder could/should reflect prior tournament play and the noobs have to work their way up into the group of reliable players. Ratdeath, I hope the games you do have going are fun and enjoyable.

remember… winning a combat mission tournament and $4 will get you a latte at Starbucks… ;)

the most important thing is to have fun. The tournaments get you games with some excellent players you would not otherwise get to PBEM and I love them for this reason.

  6. Both probus and I got our abrams. My recovery was like grand theft auto. What was left of the crew jumped in under fire and left the area at a high rate of speed. Made me 😂 watching the movie. Another spectacular moment was probus shooting a tree and obliterating an entire squad with splinters.  Never seen that before.  This is not CMBS with airburst munitions…. So I choked on my coffee watching them all die at once this morning.  We are both gettin after it. Fun times !!  This is why I enter the tournaments.

  7. The final US reinforcement into the Russian far objective would totally crush any serious advance past mitteleshenbach. What a hose job !!

I never got to play them as they arrived just as we stopped, but I would have parked them on the objective and they would have been hell to dislodge in 15 minutes with a shot up MRB.

I had sent my red air back to attack this objective with cluster but the timing was not do-able.

  8. I rushed my Motor infantry thru the covered advance, took heavy losses at that opening, but did get a big part of that company out from under the blue guns up on that hill.  So, I felt that I could have stormed mittelshenbach and taken it.

I was a little lucky as my MIG’s were dropping cluster right on his blue tank concentrations and i put the cluster arty right on mitteleshenbach from turn 5, on a light max mission and it was very unhealthy for his infantry to be there.

I attritted my oppo firepower down pretty significantly which made the rush do-able.

I made the right choice to send ALL the air at minute 5  because once the Tunguskas arrived, things would have been different for blue air.  All my aircraft, both sides, aircraft scored kills.

My oppo did not pre plan CAS or fires. And he never got them off. We stopped at minute 30.

  9. The scoresheet for this tournament on the slitherine site is interesting.  It appears that number one received two surrenders and that probably 12 or 13 games will not even start. Of the games that are going, very few are going to finish without ceasefires.

I reckon most of the field will be eliminated from overall contention by either no shows or slow play.
