  1. Here are some screen grabs from the open moves of playing my overhaul of the nicely done Bloody Buron map and scenario.  As just stated, the existing scenario is already nicely done. I modified it to satisfy my personal interpretation of events, terrain, OOBs and deployments.  The most significant change is that the elevation contours use an accurate 5 metre map from a French website and not the inaccurate contours on the WWII 1:25,000 maps. The latter misguided the Canadians during the assault as well. In the final phase they were to occupy a high point north of Buron but when they got there, they found that it did not exist.

    The map is so precise that I made a scenario where the goal for these 2 paras( @JM Stuffmod)  is to find a farm for a meeting with the resistance, that without compass, it is broken (see top right) using the stars and aerial photo!!!

  3. I am totally onboard with Ithikial's last comment. I also 'fix' some units in place for historical reasons. I recognize that it is impossible to always please all player's preferences. My earlier comment about how to release units by going into the editor was 'tongue in cheek' as personally I am not interested in doing so and ... as was noted by others above ... you could really screw up the scenario. But then maybe someone who does that, does not mind the results. As always ... to each his own.

  4. Understood. So if you don't like that a given scenario has locked-in the deployments in a scenario you want to play, it's really very easy to change it to your liking as follows:

    1. Open the Scenario Editor

    2. Load the scenario

    3. Select 'Map' from the selection box at the top left.

    4. Select the 'down' arrow from the options list to bring up the second page of the options list

    5. Select 'Setup Zones' - This will bring up the map

    6. On the map paint a coloured set-up zone around the 'locked-in' unit/s you want to release

    7. Save the scenario as 'old scenario name.ALT'.

    Done. Easy as that. Then play and be happy. Everyone to their own likes and dislikes.

     

  5. I have been creating a series of scenarios covering a portion of the 82nd Airborne's experience in Normandy from June 6th through 10th, 1944. The goal is to complete a series of 16 scenarios plus variants. Currently #1 through #7 plus #11 and #16 have been completed. The last one is a 'what if?' scenario but the others are all historical. There is a mix of single and multi-player versions. All are posted at FGM's Scenario Warehouse.

    The project was stimulated by my playing another designer's 'Amfreville' scenario. This was extremely well done and was adapted to CMBN's diagnonal/orthogonal map reality distorting system. I have an obsession with creating better fit maps and decided to do so with Amfreville and two related la Fiere Causeway scenarios, similar to what I did with the scenario 'Bloody Buron' with my 'Bloody Buron Overhaul'.  Falaise's 22.5 degree roads have been a tremendous help in eliminating the saw tooth effect from roads that run in non-diagonal or non-orthogonal directions. Once I got started the map grew way larger than originally planned, stretching from Les Landes in the west, across Cauquigny and the La Fiere causeway, to the railroad crossing east of La Fiere on the road to St. Mere Eglise. Like my huge master map Pont Hebert to Les Hautes Vents, all of my maps are use accurate 5 meter contour maps from a web site in France and aerial photos of the landscape make in the 1950's before most of the bocage, apple orchards, farms and communities changed too much.

  6. In respect of both points of view. Experienced scenario designers have thoughtful reasons for making certain items immovable during setup. This is more likely to occur in historical scenarios and thus presents players with an historical challenge. I can also understand the wish to have more flexibility during deployment, especially in H2H games, having recently played an SP game H2H as the underdog with almost no deployment options.

    The solution is really fairly simple. If I, or you, don't like the deployment zones or options presented in a scenario, then load it into the Scenario Editor and modify it, remembering to rename modified version when saving to something like ... version '#'.

    Seven years after you first posted regarding the creation of your scenario about de slag bij Overloon, I am wondering where, if at all, it might be possible for me to get a copy of that scenario or whatever particulars you have completed. As an Amsterdam born Dutch-Canadian I am interested in the Canadian activities in WWII in Nederland. My father-in-law (Scots-Canadian now in his 90's) was in the Canadian Black Watch in Nederland during WWII in '44-'45.

    I have also contributed a few scenarios and mods, most recently 'Bloody Buron Overhaul'.
