    Very interesting.

Were the results with light and heavy ground with or without trees? Heavy includes more brush if I'm not mistaken, so should be harder to see through.

I have always thought, along with some other likeminded folks that we need an extra type of ground cover or object to place in woods to create a denser feel in places - thickets. The best way of mimicking this is to use individual sections of bocage or hedge as these can happily coexist on the same tile as trees or bushes. Also good for making areas impassable to almost everything.

Heavy and light forest ground were identical as far as LOS distance is concerned. A bit of a surprise that. I do not remember if I tested those ground tiles with or without trees. Again, the results are not at all comprehensive as they were specific to the map I was creating.

  2. Some years back, when I created my first map and scenario - 'Teufelsberg' to replace the game's original 'Devil's Hill' I conducted a bit of research on distance of penetration of lines of sight into various tree types and densities. This was necessary to produce a result similar to that reported by the combatants on the hill. While my research was not comprehensive to all tree types and densities, what I found is described below. This was accomplished by creating large areas of a single tree type at different densities and then trying to trace LOS through them in a variety of directions from a variety of locations.

    Results:

Tree type E (conifer), two per map square - LOS range of 40-80 metres).

Tree type E (conifer), one per map square - LOS average 80 ± 10 meters, maximum >103 meters. Tree type C (deciduous) one per map square - LOS average 40 ± 5 meters, maximum 60 meters.

Tree type A (deciduous) three per map square - LOS 15 ± 5 meters, maximum 31 meters)

Light Forest ground and Heavy Forest ground have identical LOS penetrations of 105-110 meters.

The foregoing were tested only in CMBN. Results may differ in CMFI, CMRT and CMFB

I see you've now done this, many thanks!

As mentioned I had some of them, such as:

WO 82N04a Timmes Digs in SP.btt

WO 82N04b Timmes Digs in H2H.btt

    WO 82N04c Timmes Digs in H2H Swz.btt

WO 82N05a Angriff der Grenadiere SPGE.btt

WO 82N05b Angriff der Grenadiere SPUS.btt

WO 82N05c Angriff der Grenadier H2H.btt

WO 82N06a No Better Place to Die SPGE.btt

WO 82N06b No Better Place to Die H2H.btt

But I didn't have them all, not sure how that happened.  I also have some of the other items on your list, but with different names, for example missing the WO or in one case with WT at the start.

I'll grab the new additions and reassess where I'm falling short.

    Thnaks again!

Yes, over time the names sometimes changed because after a number of play throughs I tended to tweak and redo the scenarios. The three Shanley scenarios are completely new reworks of the original scenario  which was too imbalanced.

At the risk of repeating myself...

John says Ono but we say WimO. WimO WimO I don't know why he says Ono. We say WimO.

Of course, I'm paraphrasing. The original lyrics were ... Eusebio, but we say Kiddo. Ah, we were all so much younger then.

Yes we were much younger then. Back then I was singing, "When I get older, losing my hair ..." but the "many years from now" have arrived. 😄

I posted three excell spreadsheets above but virus checkers are seeing these as risky downloads so I have reposted them here as pdfs. Sorry that the print is very small.

I knew you'd be along soon 👍.  I only seem to have WO files (4, 5 and 6) and a couple of the ASL ones.  I'll look again on TSD3 which is now the one and only source I think?

I'll email if I get stuck, many thanks my friend and keep up the great work!

You can find a dozen or so 82nd Airborne scenarios at TSD3 under the name 82nd Airborne in Normandy. I have continued to add additional scenarios under that single posting. Perhaps I should break them up and post them individually ?

And can I ask a lazy question?  Are all of those scenarios available somewhere like TSD3?  I only seem to have a few of the WO files (4, 5 and 6) and a couple of the ASL ones.

Which scenarios are you asking about; the ones I created or the total collection of all CMBN scenarios that I merely mod-tagged. All of my created scenarios have been uploaded to either Green as Jade's site or the Scenario Depot at one time or another. All of the 82nd Airborne scenarios are posted as a single collection at the Scenario Depot. Likewise, any mods that I have created have also been uploaded at one time or other. The only thing that I have not shared is the mod-tagged scenarios and all the 'other folks' mods that I have tagged for my own use. Another player on this site or the FGM has also mod-tagged all the scenairo and posted it. I can't use it cuz my tags are different. At some time in  the past I posted an exel sheet of my tags. Here it is again.  If you are looking for some scenarios of mine that you cannot find then just email me at woud89@gmail.com.

  7. So far the production of my first video is making positive progress; have condensed 40 minutes of game play down to 25 video minutes consisting of many cut scenes. Still need to process another 60 minutes of game play. Once it is all done I will have two more problems to solve: 1. What software will allow me to add a voice over commentary post-processing? and 2. What software will allow me to 'draw' arrows and such over the video to illustrate my game plan?

  8. I am hoping to start a new thread here on the subject of creating videos about anything related to combat mission; AARs, map creation, scenario creation, modding, etc.  A number of our fellow gamers have already created numerous excellent videos and posted these on YouTube. I am in the process of trying to learn 'how to' myself and am hoping that this thread will attract the wisdom and advice of veteran producers as well as neophytes like myself who would like to learn - and not spend too much money at it.

My first work-in-progress is an after action report (AAR) of my Bloody Buron Overhaul scenario. I played through the whole S.P. scenario saving (almost) all of the one-minute turns. From these I am capturing various scenes using FRAPS (registered), then converting them to .mp4 format using Win10's inherent Video Converter and then editing and assembling in Win10's inherent Video Editor. The result is not bad for a first time. By the way, Win10's Video Editor has to be called by searching on its name in the search box at the bottom left of the screen. Once you locate it you can place an icon on the  desktop.

My software and settings at this time:

CMBN Settings: Everything at maximum, VSync on, Screen Resolution 1920 x 1080

Video Capture; Fraps - 30 fps, Full-size, Force lossless RGB capture, Record Win10 sound, Hide mouse cursor in video (sometimes not), format AVI (cannot change).

Video Converter: Win10 Video Converter - Video format MP4, Frame rate 30 FPS, Keep  Keep aspect ratio, Constant quality (slider bar all the way left), 2-Pass Encoding, HQ 1080p30

  9. Hello JM

What makes my "personal collection" personal is that I have added my own mod tags to all available scenarios and  those mod tags are matched by all the mods that I have tagged in my mods collection. Most of those are mods by other authors that I have tagged. If that is of interest to you we can  set up a shared Dropbox and I  can drop it to  you a bit at a time. My collection is  too big for a  single drop.

  11. VilliersLeSec.thumb.jpg.a695ce196627edc856327e7ef6d78558.jpgThis announcement is a little dated since I posted the map a few weeks back. It is posted as a scenario '6th Green Howards to Villiers le Sec'. The map is historically correct and measures 3 km x 4 km. The Green Howards fought across this area from noon to late afternoon on D-Day.  Another wide open map, ideal for tank engagements. On D-Day the Germans were a little thin on the ground at this location. The counter-attack during the afternoon struck the Brits a few kilometers to the west. In the scenario I have imagined that a portion of the German counter-attacking force has drifted onto the map.  Another 'adjustment' is the need to eliminate the German battery in Crepon rather than bypass it and take it out on D+1 as happened historically.

I recommend Falaise's new Caen stone church skins for the correct look as well as building skings by TaL, Umlaut and my own Hauts Vents building skins. The latter have been renumbered so that they can be added without overwriting the modded skins of other modders.

  12. BMAP.thumb.jpg.a6b5c28b2900ebc776e1909b36ed8532.jpgBuron Environs MM is a 3.2 km x 3.3 km map that includes all of Buron and Gruchy and parts of Galmanche, St. Contest, Cussy, Authie, Cairon le Vieux and Les Buissons.  For Buron village I have reused the layout from my Bloody Buron Total Overhaul which was loosely based on Yurievich's original Bloody Buron. The current map is great tank country and reflects the situation as of D-Day, that is to say that the German prepared defences at that time consisted only of the two anti-tank ditches. A minor correction to Buron is the addition of the large rectangular pond in the appropriately named Place de la Mere.

  13. At the Combat Mission Mods Repository there is a Campaign and Scenario unpacker that does a great job. I have used it in the past. But .. it requires the ability to install and run a Java applet and currently my computers and browsers will no longer accept Java. I imagine that is true for everyone. So I am wondering has anyone out there unpacked any of the CMBN campaigns into individual scenarios that they could upload for me and other? .... please .... Thank you in advance.

  14. A quote from Normandy - Gold Beach, describing the move of A Squadron 4/7 Dragoon Guards with the 7 Green Howards off the beach towards Crepon and Creully. "As they advanced with 1st and 3rd troops leading, and the  infantry riding on the backs  of 2nd and 4th Troops behind ..." This was while in action at about 08:30 on D-Day.
