I find that the absence of a full visual representation of gunships makes them even more menacing, the best compromise IMHO would be a shadow on the ground, per CMx1.

Agree with that. While it would be nice to see the actual aircraft if sufficiently zoomed out I'll settle for a shadow on the ground at least until Combat Mission merges with Battlefield...

    Threatening you?

How in god's name does one threaten someone on the internet.....Are you afraid I might throw an adjective at you?  :D

This is, I believe, what is known as a misunderstanding.....I genuinely did have your interests at heart, whether you choose to accept that is entirely up to you.

No, not physically FFS - and even then I don't scare that easily. Anyway, I don't want to rehash this again and so as we agreed in PM, all is good and let's move on...

Actually someone was concerned the pair of you were going to wind up in the s**t and get yourselves banned, frankly nightops I couldn't care less, but Erwin's been a good friend so I was watching his back.....I've already paid for all the Battlepack scenarios so the copy protection issue doesn't show up for me.

Actually threatening me when I told you to advise Erwin and he would be only too happy to sort out any issue with copyrighted content sort of goes beyond "concern" it goes into meddling in things you have no business in. Fact is I'm sure that if there were an issue someone that actually works for BattleFront ie draws pay from the organization, would have sent me and Erwin a message and the matter would have been sorted without fuss or threats. As I said last night, I'd had a long day after a long week so the last thing I was going to do at that hour was **** with modifying and reuploading archives when you could have done exactly that yourself without the fuss.

A bit of forethought and research before opening one's mouth always goes a long way, Grasshopper...

So presumably you have contacted those content authors who may have placed restrictions on redistribution and requested their permission to distribute their content?  If I was in your shoes I wouldn't be so blasé about it.

Sure, I'm going to make this my life's project to do just that.

Actually, all I did was kindly make my google drive available for the uploading and downloading of free, publicly available content to be shared in the community. Beyond that I don't give two ****s about bed wetters, anal retentives, know-it-alls and ****house lawyers. If someone has an issue with their content being on the drive they can download the archive, remove their content, and then nicely reupload the modified archive. If they don't know how to do that then they don't have any business using a computer or being on the internets <sic>.

howdy, looks like we need access to this folder now.

Back online now. Someone got their knickers in a knot before they actually bothered to work out that the battlepacks while downloadable can only be accessed via license key anyway.

As Erwin said: no good deed goes unpunished...

Ok, two files uploaded:  CMSF Scenarios and CMSF Campaigns.  I hope everyone gets access and enjoys em.  I found most of them to be good.   However, the later ones are generally the best as designers had years of practice by then.

A big thank you to nightops for setting all this up.

Only too happy to contribute to the community in any way I can. Thanks for your efforts too.

Make sure you share the link around guys.

    Ok good to know...

How many RDM versions have you done?  I only see that one in CMFI.

Only managed to UL 4 (2 for CMRT, 1 CMBS, and 1 CMFI) but have at least half a dozen sitting there waiting to be completed. RL always gets in the way, not to mention playing other people's scenarios.

This is cool - at the moment I am personally interested in the CMFI scenarios and campaigns.  As you may recall I wanted to find out where those files you had came from, for my scenario list: http://www.combatmission.lesliesoftware.com/index.html

Are you up for uploading them too? @nightops are you cool with that?

The more the merrier. There's 15gb that I'm not really using for anything else. As long as everyone labels the files so there's no mixups everything else is a go...

Really? I haven't seen it, but it got slammed awfully hard by the cognoscenti.

It's no masterpiece but it's not bad, delves into the sniper war with Vasily Zaytsev and the Germans.

Always makes me laugh when playing Battlefield running into guys calling themselves vasilyzaytsev1001 camping out at the edge of the map only to sneak up behind them and knife them.

Yep, some titles were a little difficult to accept.

Plus the selection is of course a very personal thing anyway. One can't really say " the best", only "my favourites".

From your proposals, e.g., I loved "We were soldiers", but did not like the 2nd "Letters from Iwo Jima". I find "Apocalypse now - Redux" great, but did not like the original cinema version. Probably, I was too young for it back then.

I just watched Letters again recently and found it stood up very well. I was a lot less impressed with Eastwood's other effort American Sniper. As for Apocalypse, I love the movie but if I have to choose I prefer the original release since the redux just runs way too long and doesn't add that much to the story. Sometimes these things can depend on which you properly watched first the Redux or the original. In any shape or form it's an amazing movie and an amazing achievement, no CGI.

One movie that hasn't been mentioned but isn't bad and does have CGI is Enemy at the Gates...

Dammit.  Already I have a problem.  Tried to sign in, got a new password, but then I get to verification and it sends me an e-mail and I try to sign in and around and around we go a couple minutes of that and had enuff.

This is why you don't see me uploading stuff to dropboxes or Google anything.  Grrrr.....

I have 770 MB of Campaign files and 860 MB of scenario files btw.

Computers piss me off too and I'm a specialist in that field. Password issues are a continuous problem for users.  I can set up a temp google account for you with a simple password and PM it to you if that will help. As for the scenarios/campaigns the best way to upload them is to zip them into separate CMBN, CMRT,  files etc.

I may in a previous life have had a dropbox AC.  But all forgotten now.  Someone needs to give me crayon-level instructions.  Will try and post all the CMSF (and any other CM2 games) scenarios and campaigns.

Hi Erwin, I've created a Google Drive folder called Combat Mission which you and everyone with the link below should be able to access and upload/download to. There's 15gb available so if you can zip and upload each of your scenario/campaign collections I'm happy to leave them there permanently for everyone to access.

Wow, that is impressive...especially for CMSF...

Where can you get these scenarios? Scenario depot definitely doesn't have that many by a long shot.

If these could be drop boxed or put on google drive that would be fantastic. A shame to lose this resource.

  14. RDM - GL - In for a Pound scenario for CMFI (requires Gustav Line add-on)

This original scenario has been randomized and expanded so that no two games will play alike, and so you and the AI opponent have more forces at your disposal making for a more intense experience. There are 5 different AI plans and all reinforcements have been set for random deployment times.

As this is an alteration of an existing scenario you can expect to play the same objectives and general flow of the battle but with more opposition and some surprises. The reinforcements have been designed to keep you on your toes and to counter those of your AI opponent. However don't get complacent or throw away your forces - you will need them.

Feedback welcome and appreciated. you can email me at xxnightopsxx@gmail.com

Thanks to the scenario author for the original scenario and Battlefront for one of the best and most unique war game simulations around. Keep up the good work.

  16. Two features that wouldn't be too hard to implement but would be of great value IMO - a record feature so you can record part of or all the game (both in RT or WEGO modes) and then replay the game and be able to move around in the 3D space and review it. Too hard? Not really, you already get a smaller variant of this when playing WEGO and this was done in the FPS game COD Modern Warfare and its variants. Very handy to review the tactics and gameplay.

Auto game space which can be set at timed increments based on player's preference.

Don't know if one has already been made, a quick search concluded that there are none(Or it very well may be six feet under).

I think we should have a turret rotation feature. You tell the vehicle where to look in a general direction but keep the chassis straight. This would help wonders in urban battles. Different from target arc. Many times the turret turning speed accounts for losses. It would be different from target arc since the unit isnt required to fire in that predefined space. It's just a better way of spotting. Besides, when do you ever see vehicles defined to turret perfectly front and center all the time.

    Bring the criticism!

Either that or a simple ai rule that overrides the target arc based on immediate threat. Wouldn't be that hard to implement.
