  1. Kieme, didn't want to say something bad, may be language problems. I mean that they are green, not experienced, don't know how I should call them correctly.

Donbas militamen also fight for their homeland, this is political question, I think.

But the conflict has been going on for quite some time now. There definately is a number of veterans who train those "green" troops.

And in combat you learn things a lot faster.

  2. Please don't make the entire AAR a novel.

Don't get me wrong, I like the "grunts POV" story snippets here and there and I expected they were meant as additional flavour (which I appreciate very much) -- but this time it replaced everything else I hoped to see more of: analysis, expectations and ideas from your POV and what you think your opponent is doing, thinking, etc. I think I noticed some 'hints' throughout the story but a short, brief and structured summary of the Intel would be more helpful to really follow the battle in my opinion.

I know it's very hard during the first few minutes but a few speculations what Bil is going for and generally what is in your mind in normal text would be welcomed by me.

Thank you and good luck :)

    Double that.

100% soldiers POV has the drawback of lacking oversight. I don't mind if you mainly use narratoin, but every x turns a short summary from a commanders perspective would be appreciated.

  3. Argh! There I go into off-topic land. It is so hard to talk about only the military aspect of this war since it is so badly mischaracterized and misunderstood by so many.

I really like off-topic land. I learned quite a bit while following this thread and I think that the conflict can't be seen seperately for the reasons stated above.

OK, I recognize I am setting a bad example for this thread. The politics of the fight that is going on obviously interests me personally quite a bit. But it has nothing to do with Black Sea and therefore doesn't have a correct place in this Forum.

Anybody that wishes to reply to the past few posts may do so once. I'll check in later on today and hopefully we can get back to military related topics, and away from the more purely political aspects. If not, then I will move the thread to the General Forum and maybe we can start a new one here that will stay on topic better.

    Steve

Yup. While the politics are interesting they don't belong into the Black sea forum.

I'd move this thread no matter what. It is to filled with political aspects of the conflict, and every statement made by someone will (probably) refer to a political aspect. A new military thread does seem necessary.

Even though there is a big "NO POLITICS" heading in the Off-Topic forum it probably is safe to assume that some, myself included, would like to

keep the discussion going (mainly to follow that excellent source of Information called Steve.) Maybe someone should edit the sticky post regarding politics and black sea. That way we could have both, an informative discussion about politics and a cleaned CMBS (Or CMBC? I'm confused.) forum.

    Unless Im misinterpreting something.

No mather I want to thank everybody who participated. Very interesting stuff.

  4. War always was mythical and exiting. Because it had to be.

Very few people would support war, any war, if they were told "Our guys will go, do some killing and do some dying. All in all they will cause a lot of pain, agony, etc., Support us!"

War is exciting because thats what Society thought us.

  5. This sounds like you disagree with my statement, but I don't know what your objection is?

    Steve

No objection at all, just surprise.

I have to confess that I didn't look at any numbers before posting. It Looks like I gravely overestimated Russias military capacity.

I take back everything I said and Claim the contrary.

I already knew, not because I have a crystal ball, but because I paid attention to what was happening (...).

I am not always right, but so far my track record is pretty damned good when it comes to this particular crisis. I've done pretty well for some other ones too:

    Steve

And I thought that I finally found someone I could believe everything and praise it as truth.

Looks like I have to keep searching.

  6. Russia could win every single tactical battle and still lose the war simply because of numbers.

    Steve

I never thought that I would read this statement from someone who actually knows what he is talking about.

In the end I think that the outcome of any conflict will be decided by Russias dedication. Without a doubt they would win any conflict if they are able to throw everything they have into it. Which is unlikely.

On the other side, while the ukrainian government is stable they will be able to put up a fight. In the end, an all out conflict (hopefully) is only fiction.

  7. Nonsense. Poland is part of NATO. When your country will go to war, so will the rest of NATO. The Ukraine is an entirely different matter.

You don't go to war unless there is a very good reason for it. I can imagine that for some NATO countries even a invasion of poland wouldn't be sufficient.

But im absolutely sure that, even if some countries don't join the war, there will be plenty of support. Losing Poland would mean russians on the German, Slovakian and Czechian border. I don't think thats something those countries would want.
