  1. Not gonna happen. Battlefront said that they won't put CM on steam and they'll say it again. Search the forum for details.

If you try to start an argument why it is better to publish CM on Steam be prepared. Unless you yourself have a long and succesfull history of publishing games you won't be able to argue with Steve.

My honest advice is to just forget it. You'll save yourself from a lot of trouble.

  2. Now we are talking about two different things.

One is a permanent flow of information: A way for the player to realise what is going on without having to watch everything all the time. I voiced my opinion about that one above.

Now we are talkng about triggered textmessages implemented by the scenario designer.

That one I'd find great. It would give every scenario designer the possibility to form a scenario. Especially in campaigns, where you only fight with one side this could add something unique to the battle. Stuff happening outside the actual battlefield could have an impact.

And it would only need small changes. Everything we need is inside the game already.

  3. So will we see some

    Up, Close and Personal

    fighting?

I really know how to put threads back on track.

Regardless, while I liked how CM1 abstracted close fighting I don't think it would  be possible to implement it in CM2. In CM1 we had groups, in CM2 we have single soldiers organised in groups. Abstracting close combat would lead to all kind of weird issues. How would you handle spotting? What if a mortar dropped close?

If soldiers aren't where we see them the game will become less logical. Unless you have an idea how to keep the soldiers in place and handle close fights.

  4. Baneman, I think thats exactly what he meant.

I remember looking at a stragegy game - I think it was called Ruse- where you had continuous audio feedback on everything happening. You might be commanding a tank in the norh and suddenly a message would pop up, saying something like "Bomber one under fire". At the same time you'd hear the message.

I mostly play WeGo, so maybe I'm not qualified enough to talk about this issue. I can imagine someone playing in realtime having problems following everything on the battlefield. In that sense it would be beneficial. However, to me it would destroy something I love about Combat mission. Combat mission forces you to have that situational awareness yourself. Sure, it would be easier to have someone read out loud what's happening, but in the end you are the one responsible for both recoginsing and reacting to new threats.

I don't know how many players play realtime and how many players would enjoy the constant newsflow. I'd imagine that implementing a feedback system is a ton of work, and I'm not sure if it's worth it.

  5. Yea but then how "realistic" is combat mission anyway? Is it a tactical simulator or is it a, (life of a soldier) simulator

    This. Tactical simulator.

I think the example of sleeping, etc was a bad one. We are not talking about weeks behind enemy lines. The focus of combat mission is combat.

There is a reason why we use multiple soldiers to do spotting. It's easier to do things as a team. Two persons double the ability to actually scout, both in game and in reality. Not only is a team less likely to run into an ambush, but also more likely to have one team member survive long enough to send intel about the ambushing enemy to other units. And in case something unexpected happens you have a backup plan.

In the end you probably should rethink your scouting if you lose scouts to often. ;)

  6. I think the battles start in the east/north and work their way towards Kiev. The next module with the US Marines will focus nearer the south coast and Crimea. That's just in general, the scenario designers could pick about any location that seemed appropriate as long as it fit in the storyline (nobody's waging battle on the mountainous border with Rumania).

    First module confirmed. US Marines.

  7. A new Forum for scenarios would be great.

I think it's less about the "How can I do this?"  and more about the "Oh, I can do this". You can't ask about something you don't know.  As an example take a look at the editor overlays. It makes building maps a lot easier, but you never would ask if there was an overlay. You simply don't think about it.

However, I think it's necessary to have one "Scenario" forum and v.3 (Or v.2) subforums. Some might not be able to use AI triggers, simply because they didn't update. That could cause a lot of frustration.

    And drive sales. Hmmm...

  8. While I think that a nuclear-themed addon would be cool I don't think it would be feasible.

First, the idea of hazmat gear and NBC vehicles is great. The gear would drastically impact combat effectiveness on the field. I also like the idea of vehicles which are unique and new. The impact of radiation, etc. could be set by something similar to the electronic warfare setting.

However, much like winter (actually, just like winter) adding those for every single unit, weapon and vehicle would require a ton of work. Regardless of the fact that nukes are highly unlikely in the scenario which will be depicted by the game, adding something as complex as radiation seems out of scope to me.

If BF had unlimited ressources I would love to have a post-nuclear campaign. Sadly they don't, and there are things I'd rather have them do. Maybe we'll get a WW3 CM in a decade or two. Until then this won't happen.

  9. I remember using On-map mortars in a defensive mission. I blind fired them into the path I thought the enemy would take via TRPs. After ending the mission I was surprised that they actually hit extremely hard (50+ kills if I remember right.)

It gets even more important if you consider support assets which engage freely. After a mission I want to know what my helicopters were engaging all the time and if they succeeded.

However, if BF thinks that it's to hard to implement I can accept that. It's a "nice to have" feature and won't impact the digital battlefield to much.

  10. In the WW2 Combat Missions the date of a scenario can have a major impact on the scenario: Vehicles, formations and soldier equipment changed during the war and so they do ingame.

I can't imagine the US Army issuing a new rifle to the units stationed in Ukraine, and I also don't think that Russia will start building a new tank.

Will the scenario date impact premade scenarios at all? Will they change rarity points for QBs? Or will there be no impact at all?

I already gave you a reason why I deserve this game. I won't repeat myself.

Writing the same text twice is not awesome. I'd never do something as cheap as that.

    Because I am awesome.

You could have laughed at me: "Duude, that guys estimate is totally wrong! He is not awesome at all!".

Of course it was. I like to keep things exciting. If you all knew that the awesome guy always wins, where would be the excitement? You all want excitement.

So, why do I still deserve this game?

Excitement. You need it. I can offer it.

Imagine an AAR. You know who will win. One guy will use tactics. The other one will ATTACK! You can predict every single move.

    Boring, right?

You don't want to read that. Your negative feelings about the AAR expand. Soon they will include the forum, the game.

You won't play CM ever again.

Sounds like a nightmare? Soon it might be reality.

But what if I played the game, instead of somebody who knew what he was doing wasn't awesome?

    Excitement! Unpredictability.

    Positive feelings.

You start to like the AAR, the forum, the game.

You reach the final level of happiness. Your life has a purpose.

I could do that for you.

    Because I am awesome.

Awesome enough to suffer for you?

    Yes.

Awesome enough to write for you?

    Yes.

Awesome enough to die for you?

    Yes.

Awesome enough to deserve the game?

    You know the answer.

  12.

I need to scout the perimeter and the entry points before I make a plan for entering and taking the objective... I doubt it'll be a cunning plan.. the entry points are obvious.  Unfortunately I wasn't thinking too clearly during setup because I placed the scout teams that do have breach kits on the other side of the map... and they would have to run a Tunguska gauntlet to get to the Power Station... if the entrances are mined I might need to just invest the objective until I can figure something else out.

What about breaching with your AFVs? Either drive a tank through a wall and then retreat or shoot with HE until the wall is no more.

    That could work, right?

Why do I deserve this most?

Because I'm the future of this series. I'm the one who will buy Combat mission when everyone else lies dead on the beaches. I'm the one who doesn't need an awesome profile picture to show how awesome he is.

    Because I am awesome.

No matter how far off my guess is, I am still right. Because I changed my guess at the last moment to help someone else achieve victory. Because I know that he will write a better AAR, and because I'm ready to suffer for the greater good.

    But thats not everything.

I could have written a long text about how awesome I am,but I am to awesome to write a text about my awesomeness. Because I never could describe my own greatness. You could argue that I'm not awesome if I'm not awesome enough to write a three page text about how awesome I am, but that would mean that you don't understand how awesome I really am.

    Because I am awesome.

And that's why I deserve the game most.
