the russians wont cut back spending ... Putin sacked the minister of finances for saying they could not afford the rearmament program because of the falling price of oil artificially driven down by the saudis overproducing on orders from washington. They go all in because they expect a war.. if they can win such a war the economy wont be a bother.. if it goes nuclear and everything goes to hell.. well.. the economy wont be a bother either

I was wondering, Panzerldr said that javelin was difficult to cope with for the russians. The heavy ECM environment, IR and thermal blocking smoke (which was not in CMSF), and some IR and thermal signature reduction kits would not significantly refuce their effectiveness ? Playing as russians would not be a problem for me... i've been able to cope with the javelin in CMSF as the syrians pretty effectively... but playing as the US against the russians, I dont want it to be TOO easy when my infantry devastates an advancing force in the first 5 mins. I play against the AI btw.. I'm not sure about my proficiency against a seasoned human opponent.

Like I said in other threads... the biggest advantage of that camo would be to significantly reduce the effectiveness of the javelin ... making it less the wonder weapon it is right now.

javelin would be much less effective and dominant.. combination of jamming, EMP weapons, IR and thermal reduction camouflage (nakidka) ... IR and thermal blocking smoke.... missile detection systems (radar on tank detects missile and swing the turret in direction of missile launch, on T-90A and T-72B3) plus accurate, fast reacting and deadly precision artillery ... and historically russian pre-assault recon (even without drones) has always been good so it's a whole new ball game..

the way I see it... all the modern stuff would be neutralized so it's back to world war II with longer range and more powerful weapons

if it's lower than the detectable resolution of the seeker that's a problem... javelin is 96 by 96 pixels I think .

Will the smoke be thermal or IR blocking ? That could be useful for the Russians and will effectively negate the javelin and abrams long ronge kill capabilities. Drop a thermal and IR blocking smoke screen in front of suspected enemy positions and suddenly you fight at ranges where the javelin is confined to direct attack fire mode (wayyyy less effective) and the abrams can be killed frontally with a well placed shot in a weak spot (much easier to do at point blank)

THe Nakidka reduces the thermal, IR and radar signature of all russian vehicules to near back ground levels. It can be used in combat. That would considerably the effectiveness of almost everything but especially the javelin since it can miss very easily if the IR signature is close to background. Any thoughts ?

What i'm interested to know is how effective is the M1A2 SIDE armor ERA against missiles like Kryzanthema, Kornet or tandem warhead RPGs ? Beta testers ?

Abrams has some weak spots frontally (gun mantle, middle of hull).. basically the middle of the frontal cross-section of the tank can be penetrated fairly reliably by the lastest russian long rod penetrators under 1600 meters. The probability of hitting those spots increases as the range decreases. At 500 meters or less (boresight), who shoots accurately first kills the other. At over 800 or 1000 meters the M829A3 cannot reliably penetrate the T-90A frontally unless hitting a weak spot (again, gun mantle.. middle of hull.. top of tank). It's not that simple. M829A3 can penetrate around 900mm RHA at point blank I believe and 825mm at 1000 meters, 770mm at 2000 meters. Latest russian sabot can penetrate around 900mm at point blank too but performance decreases faster with range (around 675-700mm at 2000 meters). Those are very rough estimates I admit.

range was 400 meters. trees were on. Like I said... I had a recon sqaud on a nearby hill observing with direct LOS to where the Stug magically appeared for at least 15 turns. It is a scenario where the russians are attacking a prepared defensive line (dont want to give spoilers here). The tank was smack in the middle of an open ground elevated ground.

and ohhh. yes.. before that the 5 t-34s themselves were standing still and were in LOS of that Stug occupied spot and saw nothing (neither did the stug since he didnt shoot at them)

I guess this subject have been beaten to death already but let me voice my frustration anyway
In some scenario, there was an undiscovered Stug sitting 400 meters away on totally elevated open ground (no woods nearby, defensive line) that destroyed my 5 t-34-76 and I had recon units with binoculars on a hill directly observing that spot for the better of 15 mins before sending the tanks. Other units also had the spot where the tank was sitting under observation. That's at least 30-40 pairs of eyes, some with binoculars that never noticed that stug sitting on open ground. I find that hard to believe and it cost me the scenario. Will there be some spotting adjustments done in the next patch ? I did everything right and it still wasnt enough. -

IS the Javelin still the one shot .. one kill weapon it was in Shock Force ?
