  1. Some more pics of inf. going in combat:

German ones near Rots going for the assault,

So far for direct assault, as I know they were just taking everything essential.

From what I read, a maximum of grenade, support weapon ammo and their own ammo.

The rest was carried I think on the motorized vehicule as bren carriers and other vehicules.

I might be wrong there, it's more of a question than an affirmation

  2. I have to strongly disagree.

CMx2's handling of close combat is quite horrible IMHO. Hand to hand combat is not even modelled, buildings are quite sketchy and horribly abstracted compared to all other terrain types, the spotting simply doesn't work in CQC environments (two hostile soldiers facing eachother... next to eachother, takes them at least 30 seconds to spot eachother sometimes... units don't use grenades to clear rooms, etc.

From my experience the CMx2 engine can barely handle fights inside larger villages, let alone towns and even cities. It's good for anything in the 50-2000m range.

I totally agree with that, But anything intown, or fight into villages, I don't think it renders it really well...

SO I don't thihknk it would render well berling or stalingrad

There is stilla lot of stuff that cm omit from a realism point of view. I totally agree about hand to hand combat in the norman background, but in an urban enviroment, it`s totally different, people shoot, nade and ''SHOVEL/SPADE'' each other fron room to room. from hedge to hedge I think it`s awsome, but in urban enviroment, i think it stitll has some progress to do!

  3. Better to pick a few areas and do them in depth, IMO.

IMO too :D, I totally agree with you that you need some detailed stuff and not having a bunch of campaing that got no sense. But it's probly my bias, beeing from canada :D. I"m really looking forward to see a June 7-June 9 12ss counter attack on the 3rd canadian infantry div. and Canadians attacking back after. That sounded to me like a killer 2 side Campaing.

On the other hand, I would have love to see A polish unit advance trhough totalized from 1st cdn. div.

And finaly, a 43 Essex through epsom, up to hill 112.

I`m really looking at this module as the holy grail of rts to me, so I got high expection, but i get no doubt that it will be good. Just campaing wise when I heard that it was only epsom, i tought it would be 1 cam file with a few maps and that's it. It would add like 2 more campaing to the campaing list. But if it's a few cam file, just on Epsom I'm up to to the challenge as well!

I also, understand that the price of the module is going to be half the one of the game, so I shouldn't expect as much stuff in it?

Also, if anyone is interested to make some 21st army group maps, especially the canadians, Over the last few years, i managed to gather a good collection of pictures and topo maps of the area, as i try to map for another game. Just PM me and I could probly help you out.

  4. Btw, it's "co-axial". "Co-axle" would be an MG sticking out of the hub of the drive wheel.

CO-AX... with the gun no? That's how it's called. Bow mg and co-ax for the one next to main gun.

As for backing up, it sounds realistic to me.. you in a metal can that can be pierced at less than 15m by a ****load of stuff, would you stay there seeing pretty much nothing or back up and pound the **** out oof nthe spot with HE?

I would say it fits with a bad tank use probly, you need an infantry screen to protect your tank, having a close encouter with infantry from a tank is a tactical error(wich happens to me too sadly ;) ).

  5. If that is a Mk III, I would hate to see the Mk I.

As for Campaigns, I would have thought they would have tried Operation Totalize as it includes, Canadians, Brits and Poles. It was exciting, bold and included some very wacky situations.

    I agree with you,

there was such major op. on 21st army group.

I was expecting a bit more campaings than 1 on allied side.

I wouldn't say i'm dissapointed, but with the 3-4 campaing of 1st opus I was expecting a hold the beach campaing 2 sides, push trough caen and a push trough falaise for 21st army group somehow.

  6. For Canadian Juno to Falaise:

Terry Copp Fields of Fire, I really like this author.

    http://www.amazon.ca/Fields-Fire-Canadians-Terry-Copp/dp/0802037305

and mark Zuehlke 3 books on normandy:

Juno Beach, Holding Juno and Breakout from Juno

Those 2 authors have book covering the whole Canadian front 1944-1945

a good movie about Verriere ridge(free legal streaming):

    http://www.zuehlke.ca/Canadian-Battle-Series/

Official History of the Canadian Army in the Second World War,

I'm not a big fan, but can find some usefull infos.

  7. I wouldn't say I'm dissapointed,

but having the kangaroo would have been real nice since after totalized, they were used in almost all cdn and some british operations.

Also 25pounder? I don't know if they have been use in direct fire in normandy tho,

I know they have been in holland. It was the major piece of arty of the commonwealth, but I know it wasn't an infantry gun.

  8. I'm waiting for that commonwealth module since CMBN is on!

Hill 112, Verriere ridge, Caen, falaise road, carpiquet, the paratroopers on merville battery!

Getting through the german AT screen that will be the hard thing! and I can't wait to experience it! Fights and distance will probly be a bit longer since in Caen area there isn't as much bocage as american front.

    It will be a challenge!

    the_du8.gif

  9. yeah i playtest it and it's way too much troops.

Actually I stoped a compagny with a germans platoon...

I'l also make the american spwn a bit more back.

Thie map is quite ondulating. it's a forward slope up to the road, and the 2 farms a still a bit higher. 2 farms area got a view on the crossroads.

I got 5 AI plans for each sides. So far, but I think i'll reduce the 1st companie to a platoon and keep the 2nd intact for german. And Keep the A-B companie for american and take off the engeeners for amis.

  10. Work in Progress

1st map in CM, it's a small set of crossroads and 3 farms. allied start with the 1st set of building and need to go through bocage and get to the road + crossroad and then push through 2 farms and the 2nd crossroad.

Allies got 1/2 a bataillon (A and B companies and engeener platoon) +3 tanks and 81mm mortars.

Axis got 2 grenadier companies with some mortar support

    The map is quite small

320mX400m so it might be a slaughter. I might get it more in depth. later one as I'm a fan of leapfroggging companies like Brits used to do.

  11. yeah, I use the Pause button not enough probly, but it feels to me like cheating,

I def. not have the skills so far to play online, but I know I won,t be able to do it when I'll do!

Yeah for me it's not about missing stuff, it's just to hard to do all the micromanaging about placing your troops at the right place moving in.

I also have a lot of difficulty controling 2 assaults at same time! Especially when those 2 assaults needs to be done in some kind of coordination with each others!

  12. I've played CMBO back then,

but I've never been a big fan of Turn Based, so I didn't went through but kept following BF, as I always tought they did some real nice games.

So now that they do RT in WW2, I hopped back in

I play since it came out, but I can't really manage more than a compagny or 2

And I only play Small quick battles, as more units than that, I keep getting lost.

I would like to play the campaing and battles but it,s always some bataillon maps.

    So any tips?
