  1. It is nice to see that there is room to maneuver on the western and Italian fronts. Does the game have a mine belt feature (an important aspect of naval warfare of the period)?
  2. How long before release does Furysoftware/Battlefront typically have a demo available for their games? Can't wait to try out this one to evaluate the WW1 "feel".
  3. Glad to hear that. I wish there was more talk on this board about the Great War aspects of the WW1 game. Fancy that. ;-)
  4. A different one: "The Berlin-Baghdad Express: The Ottoman Empire and Germany's Bid for World Power" by Sean McMeekin (Belknap, 2010).
  5. Ludi1867, I am an eastern/middle east/balkans guy, too. I just finished a new book about the Berlin to Bagdad railway and the German plans to launch an anti-Entente Jihad in Libya, Sudan, Arabia, Afghanistan, Persia, etc. They invested a huge amount of money for little historical result, but I hope the option is in the game. The Sussumi tribesmen actually launched a fairly serious attack on Egypt from the west.
  6. Big Al, How are the setups handled for the new ww1 game? Are we constrained to the historic France-first/Schlieffen arrangement or does each major power get to choose its own Plan (i.e. either a choice among the various historical plans or a free setup)? Thanks!
  7. I'm with you. Whatever one things of the war tactically, at the strategic level, WW1 takes a back seat to none. In my early wargaming years, I loved Avalon Hill's "Guns of August". A pretty simple game but very addictive. I don't know anything about La Grande Guerre, but I played quite a bit of Frank Hunter's Guns of August before I got bored with it. He designed a great system overall, but, after a time, I just didn't like the scale of the map anymore (e.g. there's no room for maneuver on the western front). The screenshots of Hubert's map look more like what I am looking for.
  8. Thanks a lot. That's what I wanted to hear. Another thing, if I may. Do units auto retreat? When I was playing earlier demo versions of other SC titles, units would just sit there and get pounded over and over until eliminated. Thanks again.
  9. I am completely new to SC games, only trying out the demos of SC2 and the latest one. For SC2, I was bothered that you had to basically have two lines in order to make a continuous front or a unit could slip through by moving through a box corner. Is this feature still in the game and will it be in the WW1 game, too?
