  1. Absolute War is indeed a very good book. It is a serious study written with the ease and style of a popular history. As for Gantz, mind-numbingly turgid though his style may be, he is not the worst. That accolade goes to Anthony Tucker-Jones an ex-analyst who turned to writing military history, and produced the appalling 'Stalins Revenge', an account of Bagration taken from a handful of secondary sources and written like a 'D Grade' school essay.

  2. There is plenty of good things with 3, but there are two issues which I have noticed which I do not think existed before (but not tested).

    1) Sections no longer line up side by side along a hedge. Previously if you moved a squad up to a hedge all the sections would line up facing the hedge ready to shoot through it. Now at least one section hangs back and using the face command does not resolve it. The only way is to break the squads down into sections and move them into position one by one which is tedious.

    2) Infantry path finding has gone backwards. Squads will ignore a hole in a hedge literally right next to them and run to a gate to get to an adjoining field. Now you have micro move a unit through a gap. Again this is tedious and a backwards step. Prior to 3 infantry would find the nearest gap in a hedge.

As I say there are plenty of good things with 3 but some issues have arisen that remind me of the state of things mid CMSF. It is a shame that issues previously resolved appear to have crept back in.

  3. I'm trying to find some decent books on the campaign. I have read the Osprey book by Zaloga but this is little more than a brief introduction. I also have Stalin's Revenge by Anthony Tucker-Jones but am finding it poorly written and not particularly informative. Does anyone have any better recommendations? Thanks :)

  4. Using a painting of a T34/85 as splash screen from potemkines mod - looks very nice. Also I have worked out how to correct the clipping on the loading screens. I am working on a loading screen mod contains only Op Bagration photos in both b&w and sepia and there will not be any issues with clipping.

  5. I once found a set of MG42 sounds that 'ripped' in-game. I think they may have been buried in a CMBN thread somewhere. They were distinctive in that all three wavs (mg42, mg42 x2 and mg42 x3) were the same - a longish burst of very high ROF. They were the only mg42 sounds that I ever thought worked in game. I lost this mod and have been looking for it again. I have tried all the usual sound mods at CMMODS & Repository with no luck.

Does anyone know the mod I mean? If anyone has it can it be emailed to me?

    Thanks

  6. Same issue for me. There is no doubt in my mind that this has arrived with the latest patch. When you are moving a squad up to a wall one of the three action spot highlights now crosses the wall, highlighting half an action spot on the player side of the wall and half on the enemy side, whereas previously I am sure they all abutted the wall on the players side only. With the action spot highlighting on the wrong side of the wall some of your troops go to the wrong side as well. Splitting squads stops this happening, but in a scenario like Hot Mustard with lots of squads and lots of walls having to micro-manage part-squads is a pain.
