  1. after getting the 2.0 upgrade for CMBN seems to me the UI is a bit more intuitive and crisper. ability to move a waypoint makes vehicle movement easier to handle.

but altering between SF and BN too, TOE and terrain are too different compared to the few new stuff in BN

  2. hey so it uploaded ok after all:)

Many thanks, i got stuck in the TF thunder campiagn due to a bug in one of later missions. It just didnt want to load beyond somthing like 27%. Now i will finally be able to play the missions that come after that one.

hi agusto, is there a way to fix the stuck scenario in the editor? After uploading I was able to edit the scenarios (except the core units), re-insert them back in and play them as a campaign again.

  3. Hi guys

I tried to upload to repository but it may have timed out, so I put it on mediafire as well. Basically it's all the thunder campaign scenarios extracted. Also included the script file parameters.

3 days of mind juggling/looking at Mad Mike's tool and finally realized it could be done with a hex editor, albeit bit tedious. I also tried with the core units file, but no luck. With no java skills it's best I can do, hopefully Mad Mike can take a look and make one compatible for CMSF and its modules.

  4. What I am amazed to find is that I find that I enjoyed the fully-patched CMSF more than the CM2 WW2 versions(!) because the less resource hogging terrain graphics of CMSF allowed for larger maps and more maneuver games rather than the relatively claustrophobic WW2 maps that nearly all result in repetitive straight ahead assaults.

I don't mind whether the region is not desert so long as we can have much larger maps that suit the longer range modern weapons systems. ie: 2K+ ranges.

echo, can't breathe on small maps, hopefully eastern front can bring some change..

  5. Hiya Mad Mike thanks for the tool it works a treat. Still fumbling with scenario editor atm but I can finally rid the scenario time limit!

I've been meaning to ask, how hard it is to make it compatible with CMSF... tried the TF thunder campaign on both versions but only generated a 300mb campaign pic... I remember reading a few threads asking for the thunder campaign as separate scenarios, plus the camps that come with Marine/Brit/Nato there should be tons of use for it. For me I've always wanted to unpack the camp, make my own edits i.e. time limits, pack it back and play it as a new camp to have the immersion of experience growth, morale, attrition etc instead of single scenarios. And as a new comer to the CM series I find the modern warfare setting quite attractive... it'd be really great if you can give CMSF a chance.

I've no idea how difficult it is to do tho, it is quite decent of you to include the source in the download, but having quite a hard time understanding it, seems to be a combination of java coding and understanding the hex file header positions, but the only java experience I had was modding Il2 a while ago...

  6. ..

Thnx for the link John i'll give it a read. Also gonna give the bird livingston book a go, looks like a bible around here.

On several occasions they've stated that this Sherman was assigned moderate quality plate, that other tank was prone to spalling. There's a lot going on under the hood that they don't tell us about. I'd imagine armor quality would be an even greater factor when we're talking late war German tanks versus Russian T34s.

after searching the forum I too wish there's more info on how the game models these things, atm there's almost none... take a leap of faith huh

  7. Right... haven't bought CMBN yet so just reading the game manual on the site.

On the wiki page there's description on Panther G early:

"Glacis armor has occasional maneufacturing flaws"

    and Tiger I late:

"many armor plates have a lower standard of 'hardness' due to production shortcuts"

I'm just wondering how does the game model this feature? Is it by applying some random coefficient to the armor thickness when a shell impacts?

  8. As a long time flight simmer of falcon4.0 i am deeply spoiled where everything is moddable. well except the code ofc. also there're games with scarce modding tools but mostly due to little popularity. CM series is apparently different because i see new posts here everyday and nobody is modding, but i'm sure you guys have a better understanding as to why than me.

yeah:) long as someone else is writing the game instead of yerself blue is always the color. but... just how blue depends:rolleyes: who knows maybe i'll be back.

  9. Hi,

I just purchased Combat Mission Shock Force and Theatre of war kursk via this site. Comparing the 2 base games, I like CM much better and want to get in on the action of normandy and italy, however the option to mod CM seems very very limited to me, all one can do is editing the sounds and textures, unlike the built in campaign editor and the almighty SFSextractor for TOW that unpacks all data files.

I've done 3 days of heavy browsing on the forums and just to list some things I'd like to change:

    1. getting rid of the darned time limit for the stock campaign. I've checked out scenario organizer by Mad Mike but looks like once you unpack the campaign and edit the scenarios there's no way to pack them back to the original campaign state. Also only works for BN and FI atm.

    2. There're some threads reporting 1/3 of Tiger/Panther frontal turret hits are on the turret instead of mantlet. Also the gun gets knocked out too often. If there're ways to access the data files, maybe there's a solution i.e. somewhere one can edit.

    3. Also a thread reporting the Kingtiger tank taking some 6 minutes to pivot turn but turns too fast on the go. Perhaps worth another data edit.

    4. Many other limitless options, mainly because I reckon I can fix them bugs by myself instead of waiting for an official patch which may or may not come. For example in TOW it was well known the german guns pen data used 60 deg plate instead of 90 and I was able to edit them all back (took 36 hrs of effort but well worth it...). The knocked out gun syndrome is also present: one hit on tiger mantlet edge, knocked out gun. Takes only a small data edit to fix.

yes chances are rather slim I know, but I'm sure one can hope.

  10. Last time I ran TOW was 4 yrs ago on winXP where extractor worked great. Now with win7 64 it just wouldn't run, with a "cannot load rts.dll" error. Took me a bloody 72 hours to get unstuck...

    1. make sure the files of the extractor are directly inside MissionEditor folder.

    i.e.

    ..\Theatre of War\MissionEditor\SFSExtractor.exe

    is correct;

    ..\Theatre of War\MissionEditor\{another folder name}\SFSExtractor.exe

    is WRONG.

    2. Gotta turn off data execution prevention for the extractor to work. start menu->all programs->accessories->command prompt->right click run as admin, type: "bcdedit.exe /set {current} nx AlwaysOff" (without ")

for it to take effect, must reboot.

(to turn DEP back on, same process as above but type: "bcdedit.exe /set {current} nx OptIn" (without "). Maybe could've just used the DEP dialog box to add sfsextractor as exception, but ain't rebooting my rig again..)

I'm not sure it's like this on every win7 64 puter but hope it helps if anyone has similar problems... especially since this forum section is mostly dead nowadays.

  11. Is there a file where I could edit the hotkeys directly?

Because I see in the controls page, there's a hotkey "Shift + A". But when I try to assign a key with a shift/ctrl function, it doesn't work, i.e. I press Shift+W, but only W is inputed.

    Thanks!
