  1. I've started this thread just to express an opinion and it turned out into a confrontation between other people for things that happened in other discussions.

I thank Steve for the last post that re-joined one of my first statements about the public beta testing.

While I see the problems related to open-public beta testing as Steve said I must still keep my position about the game fisrt released in 1.01 version some time ago.

I keep being unable to understand how some very big issues like m1a1tankcommander said (arty/breaching and so on) and also graphic optimization where there in 1.01 version.

It took just few days before such problems were found and told to be really big.

So I keep my suggestion, if not for a public beta then for more beta testers or more testing time.

I'm not attacking beta testers since I recognize that many bugs I didn't even saw were corrected before the release.

I like to support a game I enjoy and I'll do this again in the future, though I cannot feel right when spending the full price for a game that needs to be improved before I can play it as I should be able to. I'd do this if I was a beta tester -but I'm not- and I know that these guys in some cases do a lot of hard work in order to accomplish their mission.

So, please, to BFC try to understand also my position and generally the position of the costumer who had such great expectations (as a FAN) and then got some disappointment after 1.01 release.

  2. Sixxkiller I understand how it was problematic the game preparation and I still think (I never thought differently) that BFC has put an incredible effort in CM series games!

By the way I reported a possible solution or idea about this kind of problematic... the open beta testing phase.

I'm pretty sure that this CMSF experience has taught a lot to BFC and especially they had the chance to improve the new CM2x engine.

So that we have the right to hope for a brighter future of such engine when it will be used for the next WW2 title.... but even at that time there could be new problems or things to think about, a lot of new content will be worked out and that's why I think an open (or semi open) beta testing (with whatever rules/entries etc.) at that future time might proof very very useful.

  3. So there was no need to add that comment of yours to this topic.

I wanted to express my point of view and my actual word about the game.

I took the chance to add this comment about the situation the game was at the first release.

I read the forums, although I've a life also and so I'm not on the forums 24/24 and 7/7, maybe I missed some official statements.

BFC is very concerned to public beta and they expressed this? Good, fine. It's in the same line of my ideas.

Still my statement is to stay, since I cannot read other people minds and since I wanted to express some good words about the game I took the chance to remind the negative aspect too.

All of this for my two cents only. I'm not a player more important than enyone else on this board and I never wanted to express myself in such way, and I'm pretty sure my posts don't express this kind of attitude.

  4. So why they didn't do it for this game as well? Why did they release it in beta stage?

If this was BFC fist game ever I woulnd't mind, but I expected something better because of the previous games.. and I think I'm not the only one.

I haven't created this topic to attack BFC, but seems many of you people just don't get it.

  5. I'm pretty sure that bugs would have been an easy spot for betatesters or a small crew of betatesters. Also some compatibility issues like the big one regarding dual core should have been noticed...

Finally if BFC would like such kind of betatesting as you say they could do one very simple thing:

open to the public a beta testing period of a next-to-release game..

For example this is what has been done for a next future blockbuster such as Warhammer Online, they opened to a lot of betatesters a month ago but the game won't be out before 2008...

Since CM has a community that helps as we seen duing the last months regarding CMSF I think that a similar approach would be much more interesting and correct...

  6. Hello everybody!

Since I wrote down many criticisms about this game I'd like for once to express my praise to BFC for the improvement provided with all the patches.

Actually I can see 2 very important improvements made:

    -bug correction

    -graphic optimization

As regarding the first one I must say that some bugs have been completely levelled, and some more have been somewhat reduced. Actually the bug count could be said to be normal and enough for a real release game version.

As regarding graphic optimization, since I can now run the game at 100% of its capabilities with a computer that can run any other game at top for the time being I must say I am very pleased. Although this confirms my opinions about absent graphic optimization in the first time.

Still I have to underline again one more point:

-the game was released at a beta stage

Not a criminal act for sure, but it has been a pity since with 1.04 patch the game has to be reconsidered as a new one for many aspects. Unfortunately the mistake made with the release version cannot be cancelled nor forgotten...

So my big hope is that BFC will take this lesson and will keep what happened during the last months as a foundamental reference for the next games to come. I am sure this hope is in brave, competend and secure hands: BFC hands.

    Final word:

    Thank you!

    Best regards.

  7. About "expectations" as the main evaluation of a game... think about this:

-I buy a Ferrari, knowing that such a good name IS quality related and top of the branch.

And I pay the full price for this car...

(Maybe many thought this about BFC and CMF)

-Then the engine, a very powrful and technological one, starts to brake every few days. I can't drive my new Ferrari as I would have liked and deserved after the full purchase...

    (bugs and graphic problems)

-Then I complain with right on my side... and people from Maranello work hard to make my Ferrari work as I desired and deserved after the purchase..

(BFC worked a lot on patches and is still doing)

-Maybe (can't be sure yet), my Ferrari will be fixed and I will enoy it at full!

(maybe next patches will straight any problem related to the game)

Final word? I payed 1 million dollars for that Ferrari... and I was able to enjoy it only after so many months.... did I pay for potential great car? Or did I pay for a Ferrari?

    About games:

-A software house releases a game in beta stage...

-People understand its potential and help working out problems and refining the game...

-Finally you got a complete product, maybe not perfect but a finished one...

Conclusion? Would be OK as such IF only they didn't asked as for a full-priced game (completed).

So you can approach like this, with the potential thought, but you cannot release the game marking it as a complete game (and as much free of bugs as possible, I'm not asking for perfection here), and asking for a full price.

You release it as a Beta, you ask for a potential price, then you might ask more for those who buy the game after it has been completed.

Final word: at this stage we are still in "beta", or maybe "delta" stage. During the past 2 months buyers have done what a beta tester team would have done in less time and before the game release.

This game was released in beta stage but stated as a complete game and asked for a full price and this is not right.

I'm not a whiner or empty complainer. I tried my best to make suggestions, make bugs clear, trying to make my part for this game I payed for. I did this because of expectations... but I'm not a beta tester or game programmer professional. I like to play just for fun. And so I must admit I've played CMSF fewer than I did a month ago.

I'll look forward for next patches and if the gamewill reach its potential I'll have to thank all those who contributed on it more than I did, I recognize this.

But I won't thank BFC or better: I will thank BFC, because I recognize also their work and touch with the public here... but I won't do this "formally" because they did a terrible mistake in releasing this game too soon and in beta stage..

We can talk about the real potential of the game and, of course, that note must be upraised, but not at this moment.

    Nonesense,

a game HAS to be considered "finished" when it is released to the public.

CMSF was released in beta stage and so it will continue to get beta stage evaluations.

I recognize the game has improved considerably but even at 1.03 stage it's not complete as I expected in 1.00.

Maybe 1.04 will improve the game even more.... but my 2 cents this game has some structural problems:

BF stated for example that LOF problems related to structures/walls was a problem at first stage and even after 1.03 is still there....

  9. Actually I really like the editor.

I think it's the best improved part of the game.

Smaller tiles, multiple tiles options and combinations of elements on a single tie.

    Very nice new elevation tool.

    Some thoughts about possible improvements:

-a direct button to go from 2D map designing to 3D preview would be nice.

-more options on units details (ammunition types and quantity, special equipment selection, real strenght -head count-)

-better preview images in 2D map design view about terrain textures and flavor objects.

-better options about road constructions, especially about the highway type and the way " / " or " \ " sections are made.

    Some thoughts about possible additions:

-more flavor objects! As far as I am concerned these don't require too much in order to be modeled.... they don't have any impact on gameplay but a larger variety would surely be a nice add.

-more terrain textures! these will be never enought, some more options would be nice.

    -more buildings!

THIS ONE would be the greatest and better addition... first of all some industrial modern buildings would surely add a great view in the game, oil or gas storages, oleoducts or oil pipes, cimneys, and so on.

At the time being you have to work with your imagination in order to make out of actual buildings something that looks like industrial. More specific buildings would surely add a great punch in the game.
