  1. Were these incidences (both "back of hill bombings") thought up by the AI dynamically during the battle? Not planned by the mission designer?

Snake-eye you also mention top-floors etc being raked - can you be sure your men did not give away their position first or were spotted anyway? I havent seen the AI direct fire at empty buildings before.

  2. I dont understand why you would want to be part of this war. I considered it myself before I saw through the propaganda. You think its for the good of the iraqi/afghani people? Better that you dont regret killing men defending their country - the middle east maybe - for the rest of your life. And for the short amount left of theirs.

Would you elaborate on your reasons for going to war?

  3. I'm waiting for the racism module.

Seriously there is plenty of racism over here (UK) - personally I've heard one person (a good friend at the time - a number of years ago) say they wanted to join just to "kill pakis", heard the same sort of sentiments again recently from someone I know at a college who may join (can't remember), and heard the same in a documentary about racism etc. in the army which was shown a month ago or so.

Another friend of mine joined a while ago and is probably still in training. Last time I talked to him it seemed he believed there was a job to do over there - something about the taliban. Another again is about to join in the coming months, having lost his way in life basically he sees it as his last option. I have tried talking him out of it and will try again when I see him soon.

I personally, being interested in the military and helping people in general, was always interested in some capacity in joining the army. Since learning that our governments do not work for us, but against us and about possible alternate reasons for the wars, not to mention learning about 9/11 and 7/7 over here I was less interested to say the least.

  4. Redwolf if you were asking a question...

The APCs were in the process of moving up to the walls of the town and were carrying the infantry when they were set upon by the apache. The enemy targets that came under fire at the start were some jeeps on the other side of the town. But this wouldnt have influenced the AI into being more likely to hit a friendly vehicle.

  5. I was just playing a modified version i made of the Al Huqf scenario, where a crack special forces company are seeded in the town (well they were meant to be but this time i had messed up the deployment) to defend against a platoon of bradley-mounted troops. I had instructed a longbow to fly over-head and provide cover - using the circular area attack command - as soon as the mission started.

So I press start, and the sound of the heicopter soon fills my ears. BOOM two bradleys breach the wall with their TOWs as ordered. All four Bradleys are now moving in slowly to drop their payloads into the first line of buildings. In this time the longbow has fired of a string of 30mm at targets on the other side of the map and is coming around for another pass. The sounds are slightly overwhelming in their intensity (so many at the same time and quite loud as I had ear-phones on.) giving the feel - and bringing on a modicom of the stress - of a real battle.

Then I see a stitch of tracer fire reach from the and start hitting one of my advancing Bradleys! Im not sure I remember reading that friendly fire is in this game - it was pretty cool even if it was a bug. I can supply a save of just after it happened and the map also. using 1.10.

  6. In fact, Shilkas would be almost useless in an anti-air role unless the enemy was very close. They have a range of about a mile, and can even be taken out with an A-10As cannon, which just out-reaches it (designed to?). The pilot fires at maximum range and breaks off before coming too close. With maveriks and helicopter equivalents the shilka has no chance unless it is clever and keeps its radar off for an ambush. Even then the target may fly right over and not be in range, depending on tactics(?). I guess it would serve to delay/distract the aircraft.

Tunguskas are a different story, though they can still be combated with mavericks and a skilled pilot.

Shilkas would be effective against ground targets though.

  7. The M151 version carries the M2 etc and is used on the strykers - but the NM221 does the same job but can be loaded from under the armour - why wasn't this used instead? Most of the customers have gone for the former for some reason. Maybe its not so compatible? Something to do with having to have a larger access into the vehicle? It would increse stryker ability no end in my opinion, with the crew safe when reloading.

  8. Nice idea. I guess it would be more realistic to have an in-game map to draw on but the line idea is sound and quick to implement i would guess, using the same types of lines as other orders (as mentioned above).

If you didn't mind there not being any UI part to this (I wouldn't in its first iteration) then I bet it could be slapped onto 1.10 using hotkeys.
