  1. Seriously people stop whining, you're getting $10 off which for a PC game is a SIGNIFICANT reduction (22% as someone else said), AND you're getting it a tad bit early. Usually, pre-orders don't give you any kind of advance on receiving the game, and they certainly don't slash the price. Normally, all it means is that you're guaranteed to get a copy quickly (i.e. if the game sells out, you don't have to wait for backorders etc...)

On top of that, you get VERY frequent updates from the development team itself which hardly EVER happens in the pc gaming community.

Normally, I could pass this off as a bunch of immature 13 year-olds, but I know for a fact that a good majority of you are 30+... it's pretty sad

This is not WW2 where 40% casulties were ok.

If an RPG round hits a styker and burns up the crew and the rifle squad inside.

That is a disaster as far and the US army is concerned and that mission is probably going to be a failure

So the Syrian player is just going to have to pick and choose his chances and hope for some luck.

Ambushes will help alot as well as using good defesnive terrian.

Also from my early playtests the Syrian player does not have much in the way of long range firepower.

You best bet is to hit the US side with short range ambushes maximising suprise and volleys of machine gun and rifle fire mixed with RPG rounds.

Then break off contact and fall back and set it up all over again.

    Rinse and repeat

Syrians tend not to react well to fire and the US side can bring to bear heavy firepower very accuratly in short order.

Your Syrian forces tend to melt under fire.

A typical Syrker platoon even when mounted can bring to bear 4 .50 HMG and then various small arms fire from within the vehicle.

If any tanks or MGS systems are around then you will find your squads blown to bit very quickly.

So its best to fire and keep up combat for 45-60 seconds and then disengage to better defensive posistions

At the platoon level I have been doing this very well with my weapons squad covering the two other squads.

If I have a MMG in the mix then I can really pin down the US forces and fall back with few casulties

Are you a dev/tester? About the manual, is this going to be one of those sweet 200+ page ones?
  3. Wow.

I'm by far the youngest person in here.

18 years old, college freshmen. I came very close to enlisting in the Army right out of high school... I was going to shoot for Special Forces etc... I still may go that route after college.

I'm young but I love wargaming... I have a smallish collection of GHQ 1/285 miniatures (the best of its kind), but since I got to college I haven't had time to finish painting all of them + the terrain (it takes a VERY long time and hard work to do well).

I started wargaming/warsims I guess with West Front and M1 tank platoon II back in '99 or so. I've also always loved classic board games like Axis and Allies and Diplomacy (and Risk of course) and the more ultra complex variety of boardgames as well. If it's a complicated board game with serious depth, chances are I'll love it.

Found out about the CM series a few years ago. Loved it. Looking forward to ToW and CMSF a LOT!

Unlike most people here though I do also enjoy the so called "clickfest" games... my current favorite RTS being CoH, which is really a great game and has a lot more depth than a lot of RTSs (tactics really do matter in it, though of course, it doesn't come close to approaching the realism of the CM series) I also love StarCraft, which hasn't really ever gotten old, and is still awesome for LAN parties. While I can understand calling StarCraft a clickfest (it's a blast regardless, and yes it actually takes skill), people who call CoH a clickfest have not really played it, at least not a competitive level. I also like FPS games... my all time favorite being the very realistic Operation Flashpoint (you grognards out there should try it out)... it's much, much slower paced than most shooters out there, and it's quite amazing IMO, even 5 years later. A "sequel" of sorts just came out under the name of Armed Assault, I'll get it once I get some more cash, though it's not really a full blown sequel (sort of like CMAK is to CMBB). I'm waiting for the "true" OFP sequel which will be coming out in 2008 or so. I also love the Rainbow Six series.

Like I said though, I seriously suggest you guys check out Operation Flashpoint/Armed Assault if you haven't already.

I'm a complete history nut... I've read so many books on WWII it's ridiculous. Apart from WWII I also love ancient history (Romans/Greeks ftw), and pretty much anything up to the 15th century (I can't stand American history, apart from the wars)

I'm also a music fanatic, serious metal head... I also love Romantic era Classical music (Tchaikovsky and Chopin especially) and post-rock (look it up if you're not familar with it). Been playing guitar for about a year now, I practice a lot so I'm getting better rapidly. I'm going to start classical guitar + violin next year.

I've always wanted to get into roleplaying games, but never found enough people who were interested

Oh and I'm a firm believer that Brunettes > Blondes

I checked the blog but the only thing I could find relating to CMSF was something on Asymmetrical Wars and how there will be multiple objectives in each scenario. Could you direct me to where the AI is discussed? Thanks!
  5. I'm just wondering how the devs will keep the campaign from being a cakewalk. Obviously, since the game is hyper-realistic, U.S forces will be clearly technologically superior to Syrian troops. Will the Syrians be put on an equal plane through superior numbers or what?

Second question: Will the AI be significantly better than in the CMx1 series? Has this been discussed at all? For me, this was the critical downfall of CMAK and CMBB. The AI was... pretty much terrible, and stood no chance against a decent human opponent. If the semi-dynamic campaign is to be enjoyable, the enemy AI needs to be good.

  6. I've been out of the loop for a while concerning CMSF (mostly cause I hate pining for games for 2 years... I'd rather concentrate on what's available now heh).

So... tell me about this real-time mode! How will it work? Any links discussing it would be sweet too. Will there be some sort of lobby to find games?

  7. I'm just wondering how these games compare. Obviously one's WWII+realtime and the other is modern combat and turn based. But realism-wise, are they pretty much on par with each other or is CMSF superior?

I probably will end up getting ToW regardless as it looks to be a fantastic RTS, and since CMSF is a ways away still.
