Sorry for your troubles, doesn't sound good nor right to be a victim of the some other peoples misbehaviour.
But even though you might feel angry about Battlefronts protection decisions, it still make no sense to waste away your Strategic Command licenses.
Battlefront is only the publisher of Strategic Command, not the game developer (which would be Fury Software).
I myself still play Heroes of Might & Magic Games, even though i despise Ubisoft for the way they treat their customers with Heroes of Might & Magic 6 (still bug infested beyond recognition, can't play it longer than 5 minutes before the game crashes).
So i could understand not to purchase anything new, but if i like a game and if the game runs fine, than i'm in no need to throw the game away.
In case that a member of the Battlefront staff reads this:
i would like to learn about your decision process, and what kind of help you can offer users like borsook. It would be a shame to scare fans and customers of Strategic Command away. Maybe you guys can find a way to protect your website AND offer a treat to those who have to suffer because of it?
Would be a nice thing to learn that Battlefront found a way to protect AND to serve (and to heal).
In the past my contact with Fury software was nothing but good. (Mr. Carter, if I recall the name correctly was always very prompt to answer questions)
Still I have a problem with their publisher, first I feel that they are breaking their agreement with me made with my purchases (i.e. allowing me to redownload the install files, mods etc) and I'm afraid of doing the activation should I buy a new computer (when they started blocking my ISP I had all the games activated) but foremost since I think that blocking everybody using this ISP (which is one of the 3 largest ISP in my country) is silly beyond belief I'd like to cede my copies to someone for whom it's less problematic... I'm going to miss SC, but there are a lot of other publishers (e.g. Matrix) who do not do things like that...

I'd try Ebay. Anyone here already has those games. Your IP shouldnt be blocked since most people have dynamic IP addresses via their DSL/Cable Modem so it should be something on your end.
Notice they didnt block your post.
1. I have a static IP, which I guess you deem to be my fault.
2. I contacted the webmaster of battlefront.com and they are blocking everyone from my internet provider. Just like that, it's around 2 million people, but who cares?
3. I'm writing this using a web proxy, not an elegant solution.
4. Still if anybody does not have any of the game and wants it for peanuts let me know.
-
Since Battlefront.com decided to block my IP without a reason, and refuse to unblock it, I don't want to have anything to do with a company like that.
So I have the following games to sell:
SC - GC
SC - GC gold
SC2
SC - WaW
SC - Patton
Is anyone interested? And how do I go about it?
-
I tried contacting them again, to no avail.
Basically the story is that somebody spammed the forum using a similar IP (not the same) and this is a reason to block me and to refuse unblocking. Their solution is for me to use a different IP... I've been with this company since the first SC and I must say this is really disappointing.
-
You might want to email BF direct describing your problem along with your IP address, as it seems like you've blocked.
Thanks, I did that and it seems that battlefront decided to block every IP from my internet provider. Which is unfair, and borders on illigal. I have bought 5 games from them up to now, well, I will not buy another.

Hi,
I have a serious problem, I can't access battlefront.com, it just doesn't open. I have tried using different browsers and operating systems to no avail. At the moment I'm writing this using web proxy, that's the only way I can access it, but I can't log on to the main site.
I live in Poland and my email is mikolajwitkowski@yahoo.pl

It's exactly the same sized map, and you can always test it out in the demo before buying:
Thank you very much for prompt answer.
-
I'm thinking about buying the game and I'm mostly interested in WW2 so my question is how big in terms of tiles is the 1939 scenario? Is it the same format as the ww1 ones?
-
If I want the extra speed and bells and whistles for Gold, I will just have to fork over the $25. Too bad there's no discount for previous owners (hint, hint).
Anyway, I would rather have a slow AI turn, than a dumb AI any day. I just multi-task while the AI is moving
Good point, speed is nice, but it's not what really matters.
-
Good question and it is a bit tricky to answer as the AI engine for WWI will essentially be the same one that is being released for Global GOLD so while the AI may not appear to be incredibly fast for WWI it will be for Global GOLD.
How is this possible? Well the simple answer is that WWI would have been incredibly slow had we not updated the AI engine to handle the very large maps that WWI uses, but when going to the smaller maps of Global or the even smaller maps of previous SC releases the AI is actually lightning fast in comparison.
To make sense of all of this, the WWI map is 384x102 which is 39168 tiles for the AI to consider.
The Global map is 256x64 which is 16384 tiles, or in other words less than half the number of tiles for the AI to worry about when performing the various calculations in game, especially distance pathfinding which can eat up a lot of thinking time.
Try it out for yourself with the WWI game by running an AI vs AI test for one of the smaller campaigns with the game speed fully optimized in the OPTIONS dialog, i.e. enable quick logic as well as and disable all messages and AI animation.
You'll find that over the course of 30 AI vs AI turns or so for let's say the Galipolli campaign, the game will be over in under 3 minutes.
To enable AI vs AI simply press F3 before you select 'New Game'.
It may not be the best place to ask this, but if the new expansion and WW1 use similiar engine does it mean that WW1 has the same research system? (I haven't bought ww1 yet and hence the question)
-
where can I pre-purchase the expansion? I can't see it anywhere on the battlefront site...
-
I must say I'm really happy with the feature list, esp. the research changes (been asking for something like that since Blitzkrieg came out) but the price is a tad high...
-
Instead of a new research system i would willingly play a lot of money for world map with proportions as known as in Patton drives east and Pacific Theater.
Something between the current map and the monster map of nupremals mod.
I would love to pay as well for a patch which removes the current pause before a sub dives. You always know that the sub will evade because of this stupid pause.
I'm always angry, because with the pause i KNOW the damned sub will escape unharmed, but still i have to wait for the programm to tell me about it.
Something that bothers me for quite a long time.
With the research system i have only one problem: super fighters in 1941 while the other side still has nothing. One step ahead, maby two is ok, but not 4 or 5.
Noone would do this, as you wouldn't know what to improve until your opponent showed you why your current weapons are not good enough anymore.
If you have such a big tech advance, than equipping it should be more expensive.
At least in my eyes.
I would love a bigger map. But I'm not sure it's feasible with this engine, AI turns are long as it is.
Your example with super fighters is actually the reason why we need some big modifications to the research system. As for the sub, I have never noticed, it's a TBG, so it's not that every second matters
-
What's after global, SC-Galaxy, Patton invades Jupiter.
No, but we could get some more campaigns. New research system, battle scenarios etc, etc.
-
Actually I think it's a good idea if they didn't be available to buy with soft limits. I like soft limits as they allow me to have greater control over the composition of my army, but it does not mean I want, or want my opponent to, buy units that are not really compatible with the scale of the scenario. So how about introducing this change in 1.04? Those who want them badly can always re-enable them in the editor
-
I have no problems with random, many random or simply unfair random elements.
War is exactly like that. Not predictable the second it startet.
I'm glad that i'm not in Huberts shoes, where find soon enough, that you will never be able to make it right to everyone.
This is not such a big problem, one of the biggest strengths of SC that makes me come back to it over and over again (despite the lack of hexes is the fact that so many rules are optional. Any change to the research system this late in the game's life should be optional of course.
-
This gets discussed regularly.
Have a read:
http://www.battlefront.com/community/showthread.php?t=91656&highlight=research
I'm hopeful that it will be changed.
Yes I know, there are lots of good solutions (personally I'm for abandoning the random factor altogether) but they usually require big changes to the system, here I wanted to suggest something less invasive that could be implemented in a patch
-
Well, but what about the research results that brought bad, not working and stupid products?
Not everything you research will be better than the one you already own.
The germans research many things, and not so few were absolutly useless.
Divebombing strategic bombers, super-heavy tanks, divebombing jet planes, jet fighters used as strategic bombers.
Ot think about those usesless tanks the russians and allied developed, like the T28 or Grant (useless compared to what was needed or would have been so much better instead).
There are so many examples where no results or bad results waited at the end of a research line.
Just my 2 cents.
That's why this is just a slight raising the chance as time passes, it still may fail, just becomes more likely. Usually after all those fiascos something useful appeared. No major power used the same equipment in 1945 as in 1939, while in SC this is quite possible.
-
For me the biggest fault of the current research system is that you can invest in a technology at the start of the game and many years later it is still not researched. This should not be so, new weaponry is largely an improvement upon existing designs not some random discovery. Sooner or later there should be results.
So I propose that the game should keep track of how long a given tech has been researched and provide a bonus based on that time (e.g. 3% for every 10 turns?)
-
Borsook, can you send me a private email as I might have a fix that I'd like to test for 1 and 2.
Of course, I've just sent it.
-
Vespa, I'll see what I can but I can confirm that I've made the adjustment for sleeping units as Borsook suggested above.
Great to hear Hubert!
-
All with GC 1.03 running in windowed mode.
1. ALT-TAB is erratic at best, from time to time the game starts staying on top of other apps no matter what, only game's restart helps.
2. in windowed mode there is still one more freezing screen - diplomacy screen freezes (i.e. stops updating itself) after buying a chit.
3. Very often upon closing of the game I get a message that the app crashed and needed to be closed. It's only when I close it anyway so no big deal.
-
Currently strategic map shows sleeping units with unblinking symbol, but on the normal map they look the same as other units. How about making their "not moved" symbol not flashing too?

This has been annoying me since the SC2:Blitzkrieg came out. Could we please get a possibility to turn off music without turning off all the sounds? As probably many others I listen to the music while playing, I like battle sounds but the menu music means I have to start the game, alt-tab and load my music afterwards...
5 SC games to sell

I don't know if you the person I contacted with, but I have explained this before in the emails and here too:
I'm using a webproxy just is annoying (a lot of reloading) and does NOT allow me to log on to your website. BTW how can anyone spam the website and not the forum?
And you are again claiming that you need to "protect" the website from me, so I ask again have I or anybody else from my IP posted any spam? If not, why am I paying for transgressions of others?
PS. What's really absurd about your "protection scheme" is that as you can see I can come to the forum and post spam, the only thing I can't do is log-on to battlefront.com and download my purchases or scenarios for them or can't post my scenario...
