  1. This thread has nine replies, including yours. I find it incredibly hard to believe that you do not have the time, you just don't have the quote. You are just caught without the facts to back your scaremongering. Unless you are talking about the thread you lifted Steve's quote from. And that was frigging four weeks ago. Here and now, he's being given a warm welcome compared to a generic "do a search, you lazy bastiche" reply. Hence my conciliatory and jokular repeat of the "DO NOT MENTION THE ELEPHANT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROOM." bit. Instead you decide to stir the pot with your persecution complex. Dude, you need to relax a little. With an attitude to fellow members like that, how can we not get along famously. Me, I have no problem with 1stSSLeibstandarte (he deserves kudos just for spelling it right, a rare feat ) whereas you on the other hand, are starting to bug me with your hysteric antics. Amen to that. How about if you get a fair parting shot in, if you must, and then let's leave it that, shall we? </font>
  2. I don't have the time or inclination to dissect the several darts that have been directed at the thread-starter, but I am familiar enough with the culture and dynamics of this forum to know that he has two alternatives. He can either leave, or take issue with the comments directed toward him. So, yes, given the atmosphere here, we could be just a page or two away from a full-blown, pain in the ass to the forum sponsor. Like I said, I don't expect that to trouble some of the members, not one little bit. But, it's a God-awful waste of this forum, one that I believe was created to help the publisher promote a new product of theirs. PoE
  3. Right. We aren't here to regulate taste in people's forum handles. If tht were the case we'd probalby have to ban a good quarter of you guys for one reason or another. Since there are no rules regulating Forum names (except blatently inflamatory ones, which thankfully we've had only a few) you name critics need to step down and put a sock in it. If someone behaves like a neo-nazi we'll be happy to ban 'em, even if his screen name is "Mr. Happy Pants". Steve </font>
  4. I disagree. While maybe not that moddable, neither was Combat Mission, and to me Forgotten Battles came with more than plenty of content and a mission editor. Lack of map editor is a shortcoming in this type of game, but it's very different from modability (where you create totally new units to the game, not just graphics). </font>
  5. 1C is a totally different creature from BF, as developers go. It has a history of releasing sims/games that are highly proprietary in nature and dependent on payware add-ons for additional features and content. Its IL2FB/Ace Expansion Pack/Pacific Fighters/1946 series of software packages evidences this. All are narrow in scope and lacking in "modibility." This quality of 1C's software packages is particularly pronounced when compared to other titles, MSFS for instance. In short, if you want more or better tools for expanding play possibilities in ToW, expect to pay for them later on. Likewise, if you're looking for additional vehicles or weapons types, keep your wallet open. It's 1C's game, and they'll milk it for all it's worth. PoE
  6. This one is kinda scary looking: http://ww2.games.1c.ru/image.php?id=611 Thoughts? PoE
  7. What's this, a thread about BF games? http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showthread.php?t=269314 PoE
  8. Click "PRE-PRESS" on the upper right-hand corner of the webpage. Given that he works for a publisher, it's perfectly plausible that he's got something in print about the war. PoE
  9. Back off what? He can ask for swastikas all he wants. Insulting the management by saying they're all PC and anti-German will get him into trouble. But he'll get warned first. </font>
  10. Please justify these insults with direct references. I've been posting here for 5 years and I've never seen any kind of "anti-German" statements by the "management" if you're referring to BF.C. If you refer to the Russian developers, I can't speak for them, but the forum is run by BF.C. </font>

  12. Given that "localization" of games makes it possible to ship a game to Germany without the legally banned symbol, I think it's kind of dumb not to include it in the game that ships to other countries. That said, YOU'RE on thin ice, here, on THIS forum. The management is hostile to your views about Germany's role in WW2, hostile I suspect to Germans, for that matter. If you expect a fair hearing about the politics of this, don't. You'll get mau-mau'd, and if you don't knuckle under PDQ, you'll be banned. Seen it happen, before, here at the ToW forum. PoE

  14. Even if the beta tester was related to 1C and not Battlefront, the information Sepp posted is still factually incorrect. I certainly know more about the ins and outs of the release decisions than any beta tester (excepting Matt and Rune, who have the same level of knowledge), so I know for sure what the truth is. And it isn't what Sepp is spreading around. Steve </font>
  15. My experience with testing has been that there's more than one team involved. Developers test the game internally, and then deliver a pre-release "beta" to the publisher for a going-over by the latter's testers. That would be where BF comes in right? If there was a problem with 1C's group, it certainly shouldn't reflect on BF or their team of scrupulously well-vetted testers. For reference sake, here's a link to the Ubi forum about the pre-release leak of Pacific Fighters: http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/26310365/m/8781004032?r=8191004032#8191004032 PoE [ October 18, 2006, 12:11 PM: Message edited by: Prince of Eckmühl ]
  16. Actually, "it," THE THREAD, is kind of an interesting subject. IIRC, 1C's Pacific Fighters sim suffered a similar failure of morale check not long before it was published. PoE

  18. Indefinite pronoun reference alert! By "this," are you referring to the the thread or the image of the bovine posterior and excretion? PoE
  19. A synopsis of a book by Anthony Beevor, "Berlin -- The Downfall 1945," Viking, 2002: More details about Beevor's book can be found here: http://www.cdi.org/russia/johnson/6043-11.cfm PoE
  20. If it's true that there's an "economical" way to conduct a war, then I'd have to say that the SS was a bad idea. The existance of the units made it more difficult for Germany to allocate its resources in a rational way. Instead of sending the men and/or equipment where they'd do the most good, they were redirected to serve ends that were largely political. Conversely, in the Wehrmacht, there was no real need to artificially create elite units. These tended to arise on their own, through a confluence of leadership and, perhaps, good fortune, along with proper provisioning of course. The existance of the SS made the latter of these factors more difficult to sustain. Because of this, the SS likely hurt the German war effort, rather than aiding it. I believe that it's also true, that the regular Army had NO respect for the SS as a professional fighting force, viewing them rather as the ultimate expression of Nazi meddling in matters about which they were the worst sort of amateurs. Don't get me wrong, the guy is a true master of the details of his craft and earns every nickle that I pay him. That said, his is not rocket science. I'm not sure whether or not he even graduated from high school. Your hobby, in general, does not make you smarter than folks from other walks of life, and your relentless devotion to the avenue of gaming which you have chosen affords you no more gift for reason than devotees of some other product, not one iota. I don't expect anyone to acknowledge the salient truth therein, but this presumptive assertion of superiority does not flatter. It does not does not suit the form as so presented. 22. @Sabot and his "others"... I haven't followed your career here very closely, but it's my understanding that you were warned by the managment to knock it off. They believed that you failed to do so and you were banned. It's worth noting that this is a company forum and exists (on the developer's dime) to help them promote their products. That they felt you were undermining their ability do so, has apparently been lost on yourself. Perhaps, however, they'd allow you to return after a time, were you to contact them back-channel and offer your willingness to "play by the rules." Then again, they might not. It's their call. @the developer and publisher... It may be that 1C and BF should consider moving the ToW forum off-site. While there may be some youngsters behaving badly, there are an equal number of CM fans working overtime to sow discord, and undermine embrace of the newer game. At this point, it would appear as though the "revolution" of years past is about to be devoured by ITS children. If I were interested in TOW and came here looking for information about it, I'd be so turned-off as to consider simply waiting for it to (perhaps) show up at the local BEST BUY, rather than risk a purchase online of something so apparently controversial. This can't be what BF and 1C intend, is it? PoE
  23. Originally posted by Panzerjager653: Nah, this is the old-guard's continuation of war by other means. A bunch of CM fans are really, really angry with BF for having walked away from their game. Some of them are in fact so angry that they're willing to tear down ToW out of spite. "It'll cost BF some money, but they won't mess with me again," appears to be the attitude of some. I'm genuinely concerned that the ability of folks to subvert material like that associated with the topic of this thread, an advertisment, may succeed in wrecking the successful marketing of the game. So, yeah, it matters. If you want to see wargaming evolve, then you ought to be concerned about these endless attacks on the game by the CM fanatics. It's a sad reality, but it's obvious that's what they're really all about. PoE
