    for the record, what i said about the Chinese had nothing to do with what i said about the Stryker. Like i said, the Stryker is a great piece of military gear AS LONG AS EVERYTHING WORKS LIKE IT SHOULD. I said that my greatest worry about it was the over-reliance on technology, meaning that if something fails, it could quite possibly complicate many things.

    Its almost scary though, the more reliant war-fighting forces get on "digital" systems and technology in general, the worse it will be if they ever fail the soldiers *knock on wood*. As that one guy said about D-day, "it is the largest and most complicated amphibious invasion ever mounted, and as we all know, when things get complicated, things go wrong."

    The chinese are already training military hackers to attack US government computer networks, i know a fella who works at a government facility that traced a hacker's IP back to a Chinese military base or sumfink. The point is that, in all seriousness, WWIII is going to start with all our defense networks failing.

    but i digress, about the stryker vs. M113/Bradley/LAV. Its a pretty simple explanation, all these vehicles have their own advantages, what makes the stryker ideal for deep penetration operations is the fact that it does have these digital systems that enhance its logistics and communications abilities drastically. Think about it, try to imagine yourself as a commander of a fleet of Bradleys or what have you(and i mean on the brigade level) behind enemy lines, You need to get information double fast, because the biggest danger of being behind enemy lines is not knowing who is where and whats going on. If you are deep in enemy turf then you had better have your sh*t straight. The stryker, is really good for this. Now, i'd continue if i didn't just realize that i'm running late for something...

  4. i think i can deal with the board look in exchange for not having to have my video card process all that useless extra space. But on the other hand, games like Rome:Total War use a good system in which the camera can't zoom beyond a certain limit, and soldiers can't enter it either (unless they're routed). But the point remains that it is an exchange of performance (which is seeming to become more and more of an issue with this game to players like me) for a a bit more immersion. This exchange doesn't really seem all that reasonable to me.

Well, just to let you guys know, I have Operation Flashpoint: resistance, and got some mods for it (FFUR 2007, CoC Unified Artillery, some mod that adds Marines, some generic middle eastern rebels, and thats about it) and all combined, it seems like its pretty much a fps version of CMSF, seriously... extremely cheap and extremely fun substitute for CMSF in the meantime. It even has some Strategy and commanding in it. I recommend it ;)

    unfortunately, i have yet to find a decent stryker mod for it (found one but its really crappy).

    interesting story actually, Zinni was a "supervisor" for a unit of SV Marines who, at the time, where moving into a little town of some sort (can't recall), in the town they happened to spot an ARVN armored unit with whom they once mounted an attack alongside each other against VC, but during the battle, the poorly trained ARVN APCs panicked and fled, leaving many of the SV Marines stranded in the hot zone. In any case, Zinni walked into a building in the town for one reason or another (i think it was to meet with the ARVN commander), and before he knew it, .50 cal and rifle fire erupted on the street.

    Brave ol' Zinni actually ran out into the middle of the gunfight and screamed at his Marines to cease fire, as did the ARVN commander. very surprising when i read it.

    I'm excitedly awaiting this game, but for my computer, i think its more like that scene from LOTR where there are 10,000 orcs marching on Helm's Deep. It's going to be a bloody fight for that computer to hold its own against CMSF.

  8. hmmm, it could be interesting to have AA assets on the actual 3D battlefield, making it possible to have missions like "take out the AA, then call in air support to take out [insert target here]" type missions. Admittedly these are more SF-esque (ya we've already been over that), but i think that AA in the field will add some more possible limitations to the extent of firepower the US forces can use, alongside with collateral damage and stuff like that, that will help stop the US player from obliterating anything that might be a possible candidate to likely become a threat, maybe. smile.gif

    but understandably, the time to model this probably won't be worth it for a first release.

  9. sounds good, quite frankly i wasn't really expecting much more variation in types of animations than in CMX1, i just expected them to look, well, more human. actually, the animations in CMX1 weren't terrible either, i didn't really have a huge problem dealing with abstractions and stuff like a squad turning around wihout moving its legs, but now that i think about it it WAS pretty ridiculous. I guess i have a good imagination smile.gif

  10. no problem Steve, but it honestly wasn't that hard. There are certain people whom i would be naturally offended by over such comments, but his, as a childs, does not really bother me. And like everyone has said, i really AM disappointed by the fact that we lost what could of been an invaluable resource, despite what i've said.

    Sorry if this post draws another new account and response from LoneSyrian, that honestly wasn't its purpose.

    I enjoyed reading LoneSyrian's comments..... (and non-Western perspective) and he could write and compose his thoughts and opinions very well in english which was refreshing.
    yes, don't get me wrong, i very much enjoyed him, and i have no hard feelings at all towards him. My posts where in response to LoneSyrian's in which he says something along the lines of, "I was merely joking around" after making a substantial amount of insulting remarks and what i would even regard as death threats. I decided i would let him get a slightly more mild experience of "merely joking around".
