  1. It's in the town though, where things go a bit pear-shaped.

The infantry rushing towards my ex-flamethrower team's house lost 1 man in the process. This turn, a few more are engaged by the Sturmgrenadiers at the end of the row. The Town 222 also moves up to fire at them. The grenadiers even fire a faust ( hey, it's a PF60, it's got the range ! ;) ). 1 man is seen scarpering from the carnage.

  2. At the end of the turn, the New Lynx spots the other more distant halftrack. It's given a 15s Target command, then it is ordered to pull back.
At this stage, I'm ceding these woods to the enemy if they still want them. I don't want to lose something to that bazooka and he can't use the woods for anything useful. I still have 1 squad of Sturmgrenadiers who can stop any infantry push to my edge ( hard to say how many infantry he actually has left here ). It is impenetrable to his vehicles so they're pretty much confined to hiding behind a small hillock just beyond. If they push forward, I have 2 234/1's that should spot them.

On the far side of the town, my 250/9 has been dementedly area-firing where we think his bazooka team are, but they've not been seen for several turns.
I pushed forward a recon team and the damaged 251/17 to try and get more eyes on the location. Meanwhile the 250/9 and 234/1 are also pulling back - again, a few infantry here can't do much. However, we DO finally spot them, so they're due some somewhat better aimed "love".

  3. Unfortunately, despite knowing he has a bazooka-wielder and possible sniper, I cannot get any LoF to those positions.
However, my 251/17 does finally spot a Halftrack and engages.

It loses a gunner, starts to reverse, takes more hits, loses another man ... and continues to reverse away ! Curse those American Zombies !

  4. Ok, here is the news of the following turn.
As has been the case throughout this battle, the pendulum swings viciously back in the American's favour.

In the Nameless Woods, 2 squads of Sturmgrenadiers ( each of 2 men left from 4 ) are wiped out. The man closest to the camera breaks and flees when his buddy is shot. But he doesn't make it - I can only assume Ken has some veteran sniper or similar up with his bazooka man - pretty much 2 shots, 2 kills :(
The other team loses one of the 2 ( to enemy Halftrack fire, I think ) and panics. The sniper will probably get him next turn.

  5. In town, my pinned and terrified flamethrower team are eliminated by another strong American push :(

More of them are running up behind the team's original building, although these are being engaged by my Sturmgrenadiers at the end of the row. Despite the high rate of fire of the MP44's and the close range, only one American is seen to be hit.
Note the yellow X - that is where my mortar is supposed to be landing, if they can ever dial the range in correctly.

  6. Righto gents, here is information, in glorious technicolour no less.
Note that the turn for these pictures had already been sent to my opponent before I became indisposed. This means that another turn's worth of pics is already extant. I shall endeavour to get those posted as soon as possible too - hopefully before Ken gleefully returns tonight's turn.

You may remember that the last turn ended with the schreck projectile in flight and I already gave away the result - here you can see it hit just underneath the Halftrack, but injures both the crew.

My 234/1 in the town was firing towards the distant hill at yet another M8. It was reversing away and popping smoke too. Nevertheless, it saw fit to lob some HE at my schreck team in the tall house ( the halftrack above must have had some cherished protégé in it )

    The delay proves fatal...

The smoke it popped then obscures the burning hulk. Too late.

  7. It's ALIVE !

Sorry about the looong delay guys, especially the false starts, but things have now improved "properly".

Later today I should be posting the screens from the last turn sent to c3k and sending him a new turn. I hope there's still someone out there with a passing interest in this

I was going to explain the reason for my absence in detail, but when I told Ken, he screamed "TMI" like a little girl ( who knew he had such a high note in him ? ), so perhaps it's better not

Watch this space about 8 hours from now :)

  8. Ok, I'm back.

Sorry about that, was feeling pretty grim.
Only the thought of my imminent victory kept me from despair.

New news soon ( with pictures ! )
Hopefully I can then polish off the few pathetic remnants of Ken's troops.

Question for the ages : Why are "pathetic remnants" always harder to polish off than the main force ?"
( answers that attempt to imply that the forces for the "polishing off" are no better than pathetic remnants themselves will not be accepted. There is no room for defeatism. )

  9. Teaser update ( no pix yet ) : Cliffhanger schreck round flew ... and fell fractionally short, passing under the side of the halftrack ...

... where it hit the ground, exploded and devastated the underside of the halftrack ( presumably even more lightly armoured, if at all ). The buckling plates and shrapnel injure both crewmen. :o Vehicle is undamaged, but unmanned.

Mortar halftrack fired 2 ranging rounds. One was ludicrously long - possibly as much as 700m from them - it looked almost twice as far as their targeting. 2nd was only about 100m long. :(

  10. I also noticed something odd which I'm not sure if it falls under

...it has some design faults also.

Myself playing as the Americans, there is a place where the bocage goes up to the map edge, so cannot be passed through. Accordingly, I did not attack that way.

However, playing the German side on the (supposedly) same map, there is a vehicle-sized gap in the same place which can be passed through ( and my opponent has ).
Not sure if it's a visual glitch since I can't see how the same map would have / not have some bocage.

  11.   Was ist loss hier?  Why are the flame troops not opening up?  Vee must have flames!!!  The cold fog is making me chilly... :P

Unfortunately, despite having an MP44 as backup weapon as well, the incoming .50 cal fire from the halftrack on the other side of the house ( shows just how effective the .50 cal is ! ) has made them cower ... and break. So I can't even tell them to fire the damn thing.
