  1. I'm just relived that I didn't have to post it.......... lol I'm dyin to get my hands on this game
  2. Two quick questions guys..... 1) will naval units be possible? and 2) would it be possible to create large walking mechs or is it something we will have to find a work around for?
  3. This may be a little bit off topic but bear with me, it is in regards to everyone's annoyance with the lack of ultraspophisticated equipment. As always the linch pin is the back story but frankly I'm not sure everyone buys it. So here's my stab at an analogy. Picture yourself a person with all the latest and greatest weaponry and gizmos. Now you decide that you no longer want to belong to the corrupt or unjust society within which you exist. So with your advanced technology you move to an new block of real estate, one you can start your own little society along the lines of what you see as "right" and in a location where you will be cut off from all vestiges and corruption of your previous residence. After seeing this other adventurous types decide this is the way to go and move in and make their own little societies that may or may not recognize the beliefs and values that your little enclave cling to. Inevitably coflict errupts and you having the advanced technology begin to use it. After several long and protracted confilicts many years have passed you have exhauseted almost all of your technology since by renouncing your association with the old regieme you also no longer receive any assitance and have been branded a danger to your former society. As this time has passed ammunition has grown scarce and the technological superiority you once held has fallen into decay...... your conctruction tools once forrmidable and felible are limited due to lack of material and ill-repair since you were qualified to operate the epuipment but not service it. So you still retain rudimenary capabilities but to return your tools to thier original state they require spare parts and callibration. The two things you are lacking. So now at this point you must resort to technologies that are easily produced which require only rudimentary precision and tolerances. So in the end you are stuck with inferior product from superior tools due to social, political and physical conditions resulting from your choice to strike out on your own. As always this is just my opinion....... I'm just getting tired of the continuing questioning about the "advanced technologies" that are missing when as always the reasons are spelled out repeatedly. The advanced technologies are something that should perhaps be considered for mods and addons that follow the return to greatness of our downtrodden and desperate society?...... The idea that we as addon makers and modders could be the catalyst for our own rise from the dark ages is both entertaining and quite exciting. I hope I've made my point as objectively as possible and that no offence is garnered from it.
  4. I've been wanting to ask for awhile....... just how involved will it be to produce say a new unit in Drop Team...... mabe just a quick breakdown of the various components so us hopefull future modders can wrap our minds around the process as we await release?
  5. The only question I have regarding optical camouflage is how would it hinder the effectiveness of the armor underneath or just how much weight and power usage would have to go into just such a setup. As far as visual detail making a game come to life I would argue that as seen in other games the gamplay itself is the most driving force since without the mechanics and atmosphere all detailed graphics are is pretty pictures. Graphicd a model detail can add to a great game but first and foremost it must first be a great game.
  6. Check the posts older then the last 20 days..... we had quite the disscussion on just that question.
  7. If I may add my bit..... the point here is not what our future will look like but instead what a plausible future could look like and to make it more plausible by making that future subject to the so called immutable laws of physics which all technological developments aim to take advantage of and conversely are governed by. How many laws of physics have we overcome in recent years? or should I say since we began to exist? ..... why then should we think that in the framework of this game it should be any different? P.S. The backstory says nothing about the home world being earth. What if for arguements sake the history depictded is that of an alltogether different galaxy, one that evolved along the same lines as ours but does not share all details of our history? How then would anything that happened in our past relate?..... The only constant would be the universe in which we exist and the laws of physics that bind us........ Interesting little thought no?
  8. For the sake of curiosity and for the health of my bank account do you fellas have any idea when you will be accepting pre-orders. I only ask so that I know when I have to have my limited resources in order to ensure I get copy of this wonderfull piece of software.....lol
  9. I recall a line of thinking that had airforce F-4's aremed with only missiles as no pilot would ever have the chance to get close enough to use a built in cannon in a dog fight? As exciting and plausible as this sounded at the time reality steps in and shows not all theories or supositions ring true in the face of actual combat. Only time will tell, how can we predict the future face of combat to any certainty when the short falls of this new technoogy have yet to be explored or let alone exploited to the advantage of one's enemy. No technology is infallible or undefensible. For every advance another usually follows closely to balance or overcome. Those who belive contrary will end up questioning how things could have gone so wrong.
  10. So in the event of emerging from a colapse, going back to tanks when networked dispersed remotes are cheaper and more effective Might I add to the above we already have these they are called landmines and man are they a bitch to remove after the conflict especially if they aren't yours. My appologies for the excessive posting......
  11. I'm gald I've been able to add a little flair and differing view. Nothing like a good counter point or fresh suggestion to get the forums jumping. I'd like to hear more about that nano-scale-self-oraganizing networked weapons system as I have little idea what you're describing..... nano tech materials alone have some interesting properties with regards to toxicity alone..... simple materials we take for granted as safe can be down right deadly when structually manipulated at a nano level. The inherint danger of nano technology is a very real concern especially in the hand of the other guys....... muah hahahahaha
  12. How might you suggest holding the terrain you just obliterated?...... and for what purpose would obliterating something that in the first place you may have wanted for your own?...... few wars are started for the sole purpose of destroying another but instead to deny access or more likely secure ones own access to a certain feature or resource?......... The "ROD OF GOD" is usefull only as a deterant. Not to mention far more expensive than any conventional technology. Look at it this way. Of all the nuclear weapons in existance how many of them have been fired in hatered? .... 2....... no one refutes the effectiveness of a nuclear weapon but it's the ramifications both physical and ethical that have hindered their use for their intended purpose. And I have a very difficult time thinking that the future would change these fundamentally human concepts. As far as your suggesting that the tank is dead I would merely say that they are going through more of an evolution then an extintion. Take for instance the US Army's Future Combat System which at this time is a traked armoured fighting vehicle (Tank) which will use a 120mm main cannon borrowed from a Tank? Now I'm not saying your points are invalid just that you have no way of predicting the future of warfare any better then our friends developing this very interesting and for me anticipated game. Everything we experiance in life is from our own point of veiw subject to our own bias and opinion. In this case the point of view is from that of the games developers hence they can and should take any license they need to realize the vision they have set out to conjure. If in the process they miss the mark on actual future combat systems only time will tell..... but hell I can't wait to find out....... I applaud them for treading into the unknown and offering us something that is not only plausible but fun !!!!!!!!! Once again this is just MHO feel free to ignore it if it dosn't fit your frame of refference.
  13. You're reading my mind....... I've fallen for all the FCS propoganda...... boy does the concept sound cool..... makes me think of my favourite short story by James Cobb..... CAV
  14. You my friend are wise and knowledgeable....... lol I take back all the nasty things I was thinking....... Far to often in games are you forced to act with out having the time to properly access a situation I guess alot of that has to due with the limited size of the maps in most games which don't allow enough soace for true manouvering and use of proper recon screens as well a feints.... with any luck the large maps will lend it self to the more intelligent gamplay I think most of us crave....
  15. I agree that balance is lost on many, most of the time to create balance devlopers resort to carbon copy factions from one to another as I'm sure you've noted in those other games....lol...... For once I would like a developer to to truly offer different factions with different strengths and weaknesses not just hover vehicles that go head to head against tracked vehicles that all perform the same....... I seriously doubt an Mi-28 handles much like a Cobra.......... I'm not suggsting resorting to the the infamous rock papaer scissors garbage which honestly is far too formulated to be entertaining but more along the line of specialties that can bring overmatch against an enemy factions weakness but also esposes ones self to said factions strength if not properly orchestrated. For example one faction may have superior mobility and first shot lethality which sounds near impossible to stop but the cost of mobility is reduced armour and a nightmarish supply line. They may be able to project power far but lack the ability to go toe to toe against a well orchestrated defence that isloates them from their supply lines or denies them the opportunity to exploit their mobility advantage. On the flipside the enemy faction may have the ability to exploit minefeilds and fixed defences to control the batle space and limit mobility at the locations they choose. I understand my veiws of military tactics may be flawed and feel free to correct me but a game that offers asymetric balance although very difficult to accomplish would offer players a more rewarding experience then a offensive that just degenerates into a toe to toe fist fight of attrition. I understand that in the end it is the player who will decide how he uses his units and whether they actullay exploit them to their fullest but I'd at least like to have the diversity to explore the options. Signed Grass Hopper HEHEHE
  16. My question is this, what are the methods for deplying mines. Example, via artillery so that a feild commander has the direct access to a fast and effective area denial to seal an ambush or secure a flank long enough to reorient to a new threat....... In most game mines are delivered via a specialied mine layer and as such don't allow the same type of flexability.
  17. Wow you think about this stuff alot... how do you have any time left for games? Personally I belive if you explain everything to the molecule you are overlooking the experiance that a game must promote in order to be entertaining....... does it really matter (no pun intended) what reaction promotes power generation within a power cell other then to realize that hitting it could cause an unfavourable reaction..... in MHO this is a tactical simulation not a molecular mecahnics simulation....... I understand I may have a simplified vision but I have yet to study physics at a university level and as such have a hard time seeing how it will truly have an effect on gameplay? Signed Model Rocket Scientist lol..... P.S. the bottom line is fun other wise it's to much like work and man I wish I could kick that particluar habbit.......
  18. That one should be easy (Cost of game)/(Max # of infantry possible on screen)= cost of a life in drop team.....
  19. WOW...... LOL..... now is the cost in rim dollars or core???????
  20. Point defences.... wow what a thought but instead of making them availble to infantry why not the dropship??????? It would add the ability for the dropship to be used in a hot environment without turning it into a gunship........ maybe I'm just dropship crazy but that could be an answer to arming dropships make it a defensive armamaent!!!
  21. The background was what led me to ask the question as the possability to add custom armamaments made me tingly inside. Aside from that I wouldn't suggest turning them into gunships just that they be able to fend for themselves till they can drop and run. I love playing the transport/evac pilot and having enough firepower to keep peoples heads down can make a real difference if you need to drop into a hevily defended area. Just MHO feel free to completly disregard it.....lol ..... damn whewre did those two cents go?
  22. Good day gentlemen I would just like to say how excited I am about your project and eagerly await every bit of news. My main question to you would be whether the dropships are actually playable by the player? And if so will it actually be posible to arm them within the game.I'm having fantasies about contedted landng with an armed dropship...... lol...... Well good luck and hopefully we'll hear alot more from you in the future.
