  1. It is kind of frustarating to see a dozen new threads a day about either "This game will fail!!" or "I'm not a huge fan of the subject matter, but I'll give it a try anyways." While I would like to encourage membership in the forum, there is lots of repetition(I bet I spelled THAT wrong!) in the new posts. It just gets kind of old. I don't mind the "give it a try", as they are easily ignored, but I feel that the true idiots are in need of an Internet-style smackdown, and usually end up getting one. I'm almost getting bored of telling fools that they're wrong, though. Either I'll need to man up and school some idiots, or the stream of them will have to slow down.

  2. Well, the US, the worst country ever, is going to go slaughter Arabs by the thousand. Said Arabs will be pushovers. The M1 will kill them from 4km away. US arty and air support will kill everything else. NO nations will be included except for the US, because BFC loves the US military. It will suck, because it isn't exactly what I wanted, which is a game covering all combat fought since 1512, with historic OOBs. I myself am amazed that BFC can abandon their consumer base like this for the FPS kids. I'm leaving the forum forever (actually, I'll be back to post more, so everyone's hopes are for naught - I just wanted to sound like I meant it). Blah blah blah.

  3. I like how these type of posts are still been made. Don't you (being those who are still starting threads like this) realize that:

    1. Nobody cares how you feel. Nobody.

    2. You can't change the game's subject. Except if you repeatedly hit yourself in the crotch with a hammer. Do that enough, and BFC will change the subject. Yeah, do it. It'll work.

    3. What you are going to say has already been said and padlocked many times before.

    4. We are making fun of you.

  4. I don't see how it is possible for anyone to read the "Official Announcement" from BFC and still feel the way on some thigns that our original poster does. It explains just in that post how things won't be like the scenario Zemke decribes. I honestly can't understand the total lack of comprehension these people have of the game and its subject matter. It's like they just saw the word "Syria" and assumed they then knew everything there was to know about the game.

  5. Our new friend who was asking about the tutorial (welcome, BTW) gave me an idea. What if you, MikeyD, one of our community's best and most prolific modders, were to put his mods into little packages that could be downloaded as a group. So that one could download ALL the MikeyD Shermans in one fell swoop. Or, if you don't mind being bothered, you could e-mail them and avoid any hosting issues. I guess this might not cooperate real great with CMMOS or something (I don't know), but I think that that would be a great way for new players to quickly get lots of high-quality mods. Other modders could do this also. I just thought of MikeyD first because I did. I confess to an ulterior motive as well. I am... I'm playing a wholly unmodded CMAK. And CMBO. And I only downloaded Undaunted's new skies for CMBB. And I'm a lazy bum who doesn't want to spend a weekend at CMMODS. So... what do you think?

  6. I heard they (IEDs and mines) would be in, and be a big factor.

Tom, the lesson you are learning is one that all those who whine about the "invincible M1 and the 4km kills and unlimited NATO air/arty" should learn. It can be a balanced fight, if the scenario designer takes the time to make it so. Playing as the US in a modern war does not guarantee victory. And once again, Tom, I'd like to thank you for your pleasant attitude. Though you have stated some trepidation towards CM:SF, you do so with respect, dignity, and an open mind that (seems, at least) to be accepting the new setting and game. I wish there were more posters like you.

  7. As I understood it, we'd get M1s in a few scenarios in the campaign. A few. And they'd be out of their element, and very, very valuable.

Maybe it's the FPS player in me, but I'd like to see one really big scenario, with tons of air and arty support and tanks and all sorts of cool things and a whole buttload of territory to control. A "To The Volga" of CM:SF. While it would be tough on the machine and might stress the boundaries of what you really should have, I'd enjoy a big tank battle through the streets of Damascus. Baghdad thunder run kind of thing.

I confess. I just like saying "Thunder Run". It reminds me of "Thunder Cats".

    Thunder run.

  8. And Syria has lots of stuff better than RPGs. Kornet (spelling?) ATGMs were used to great effect by Iraqi troops, and Syria has a few thousand, compared to Iraq few hundred (I think the numbers are right, but please correct them). In addition, the Syrians have even more slightly lower-tech ATGMs, and these are still powerful enough to give the US player the willies. No, if you see a guy with just an RPG, you're lucky.

  9. This thread has already been created and pad-locked. Besides, it seems like there are a few other threads that are basically just this, so you can post your comments there. This new thread is unnecessary. Also, did you read anything except for the setting? There is a lot of info about how cool CM:SF will be, if you look around a little. Give it a shot, you might change your mind.

  10. Hey, in CMx1 I played Germans ONLY for the tanks. My first game of CMBO, I'm American, I grab all these Shermans, I'm ready to rock, I'm going to kick some ass, I start the game, rush forward, see a single King Tiger 2 klicks away. Oh, he's toast. I've got 4 Shermans (standard M4, mind you), and 4 more on their way up. No way this guy can win 4, and soon to be 8, on one.

Who can guess how that ended? Two turns and 8 dead Shermans later, I close the game and start a new one, as the Germans. I've played probably 99% of my games as German. I love big tanks.

But, I can change. I know that in this game, infantry will be the order of the day. And I am prepared. And do not think for a second that the US armor will be untouchable. There are around a dozen threads where people mention invincible US armor and are shot down. Read them. You will see that the US player has much to fear.
