  1. Hey Darkseed, welcome aboard! About your question concerning Russian AFV command, you will find that many Russian early-war vehicles lack an essential part of mechanized warfare: A radio. All commands were issued by flag and hand signal, and when they buttoned up, there goes the command. :D So, frustrating as it is, you just have to plan for HUGE delays when using early war Russian AFVs.

    Hope that helps. smile.gif

  2. Hey, listen Peterk... Hunter is working hard to get this game finished, and your repeated requests for guitars really aren't helping. I mean, geez... how often were guitars even USED effectively at the strategic level? That's like asking for the German propaganda air-drops of ice cream canisters at Kursk.

    ;)

Hehe, it is true. It's amazing to me how often German-playing opponents underestimate the humble Russian weapons, such as the ATRs, 45mm AT guns, Molotov coctails and the like. I also prefer to play as the Soviets, but I certainly have no love for communism.

Actually, there was one dropout, I believe, in the first round of the tourney. The second round went fairly well, with only one slow-play participant. I'm sure you don't need to hear this from me, but your scenarios were great , Kingfish!

Thank you, sir. Now I will dissapear into the mist, from whenst I came.

Invitation or no, I sincerely hope the ROW CMC tournament goes well (no dropouts, grrrr...).

  5. >>>NOT DRAFTED<<< Reason: Too young too drink, too young to fight.
Oh, I'm old enough to be drafted... just not old enough to drink (that's justice for you!). For the benefit of the court, my exact age is 20 years, 6 months, 14 days, 5 hours, and eighteen seconds. Hardly Hitler Youth material... Seems to me. tongue.gif

Thanks for the information, Bigduke6, that's exactly what I was looking for. The level of participation doesn't sound too strenuous, I wonder that you lost so many folks in past events.

It seems that the acceptance committe likes, erm, characters participating in the contest, so if they have to choose between some one dull and some one with a perceivable web personality, they'll go for the latter, it seems to me. So be witty and entertaining in your posts, it might help.
Thanks for the advice, I'll try to remember that. smile.gif

Whoops, maybe I shouldn't have said that. redface.gif

John Kettler had no witty posts, or PWP for that matter, but he played and finished every tourney he entered...
I entered, finished, and won the recent "Out of the Dust" tournament. I didn't want to mention it, but you force my hand!

  6. Hello WineCape,

Thanks for getting back to me. However, the information I seek does not concern criteria for participation, exactly, but more of the required "level of involvement" that ROW entails. Thanks for the references to the posts and website, but I don't really see the information that I'm looking for. Maybe I'm not looking into it enough, and I'm sorry if I missed it.

Obviously, the CMC rendition of ROW might be a little different than past ROW events, but can you give us (the unwashed masses of non-ROW players) a little idea of what would/could/should be expected of us, if we indeed are favored with an invitation. A little more information concerning the level of commitment might help to weed out individuals, who, like myself, can be somewhat busy. For instance: Would the players be expected to write AARs for every CMC skirmish, or just the big bang-em-up actions? Another question might be: How many CM turns are expected to be sent in a day/week during the campaign? You might not have the answers to these questions, but I just thought I'd ask.

I'm not, as of yet, even legal drinking age... so the prize of wine (good though, as I'm sure it is) holds no fascination for my young, impressionable mind. ;) I live simply to play good CM games, and ROW sounds like a good opportunity to join in a large campaign, with somewhat (hopefully) committed individuals involved.

  7. I hate to seem like a real "newbie" here, but could you please share a little information about ROW, and the requirements of the participants? I understand (or, at least, I think I do) that AARs are required for each scenario. Besides that, what other requirements are there?

I recently participated in the "Out of the Dust" tournament, and I am really, really, really looking forward to CMC... and a tournament based around the new software seems like it would be a lot of fun(not to mention, it's probably the only time a huge multiplayer campaign will actually get finished, hehe.).

Anyway, feel free to tell me to "buzz off". I just thought I'd take a chance, and ask my little questions. smile.gif

I don't see the reasoning here. Canister was very effective in 19th century combat, so what changed? The same principles seem to apply. Men in the open, and at close range get chewed to bits by the stuff.

Stay in cover, and don't assault T-34s or 45mm ATGs, and you should be OK. ;)

As I am frequently telling my PBEM partners... You're welcome to visit anytime you want! I can get you my mailing address, if that is easier. Thanks for going to the lengths to make a certificate. I shall hang it up in an honored place, right next to my pic of Robert E. Lee! ;)

He has Miniatures, never known anyone that was into that much. Of course he is only 20 or 21, so how big could his collection be.
Over the years, I've painted thousands of figures. Unfortunately, being the poor boy that I am, I've sold most of them to fund my other hobby pursuits (I bought CMBO & CMBB with miniature money, hehe). I do have approx. 1,500 6mm American Civil War minis painted and ready to go, and at least twice that much still sitting in the box. I just ordered $240 worth of Russian Flames of War Cossacks, but I haven't gotten anything but the Tachankas painted yet. Anyway, let me know if you plan on heading down this way. My local wargaming group literally has tens of thousands of figures, and we are running games fairly regularly now.

Oh, sorry about that. I did try to get only .5 of a point, but I just couldn't manage it. ;)

Kingfish, I forgot to thank you for the GREAT scenarios! Personally, I'd leave the Panzers in the Peel scenario just as it is. It would be interesting (to me) to see how the game played, with a different, more "reckless" German opponent. Chris (Walker) was extrememly cautious in his approach, and made it tough to "get at him" with my bored zooka teams! :D I had to go back and check the briefing, just to make sure I wasn't the attacker! redface.gif Seriously though, the forward position of the three flags would tempt me (as the German player) to push forward without much care.
