AFAICT, firing the MG isn't part of the ride. It's something all the ppl who took part get to do after the ride. My guess is it's done under very strict guidelines and from behind cover.Originally posted by Redwolf:How come they are allowed to fire a life machine gun in the U.S.?
I would actually take the ride if they wouldn't do that, I don't want to be shred apart by somebody playing with the MG.

My favorite Panzer? If we are only talking about Tracked German Turreted AFV's, I would have to say the PvIVF2.
If we are talking any German AFV, I would have to say any StuG.
If we are talking about any AFV from WW2... Hmmm... The T-34 is really cool, but I think I prefer StuG's.

That's not good... Hope you dodge the bullet WarHawk.

But no drops in Russia, right? I was under the impression that they functioned as "elite" infantry in Russia.Originally posted by Red Dog:Nothing on the grand scale of Krete certainly, but they weren't exactly stuck in the mud for the rest of the war either...
Now, other then StuGs, what sort of AFVs would you see supporting them?

Not really. I'm just trying to get a feel for what sort of support I could realistically add to an over strength Fallschirmjäger company in quick battles.Originally posted by Red Dog:If you're looking for information on any particular unit I can try to look it up for you.
Right now I'm thinking one standard company with a StuG and 2 snipers as support, but I'm curious as to what other units I could attach. I'm assuming they had some sort of MGs as well?

What kind of support did German Airborne units have in Russia from 41 to 45?
What kind of ATGs, inf. guns, AFVs and specialists would be attached to airborne formations?

Having just replayed “A Warm Place to Sleep”, I decided to try to locate some more “Tiny” scenarios. Anybody know any good ones?

Sorry, I haven't read it.
When I'm forced to make an armored charge in CM I try to keep my softer AFVs in support of the heavies. I'm very conservative when I play, and hate to take losses. By keeping the heavies in front I hope they survive long enough to fire back, and with the support of the light AFVs it often works.

Hmmm... I could have sworn I saw a diagram of a "Panzer Wedge" with both Tigers and Panthers in it. Maybe that wasn't from Kursk though.Originally posted by danielh:Tigers were not used together with Panthers in the Kurskbattle to my knowledge.

Wow... That's a pretty old machine. Nicely put together though, but I'll try to hurry with that guestimate for an upgrade we talked about.Originally posted by Robert Olesen:For the record:
P3/550, 256MB RAM, Win XP Pro, Creative 32MB TNT2 graphics card, Sound Blaster Live sound card. I think that covers the stuff that's interestering in this case.
TNT2... *checks spare parts drawer* Hehe, I still have 1 of those as an antique.

Thought so. Try FRAPS. But remember to compress the file with "VirtualDub" or something.
If this is something you want to play around with I can give you a walkthrough and links for the right software. Also, what are your system specs?

AFAIK, that depends on the relative reaction time between the spotter and the HT.Originally posted by Melnibone:I think you need to plot the Spotter move after the HT is already in motion...otherwise the spotter will disembark straight away.
If the HT starts moving before the Spotter decides to do as he's told, then he will wait until the HT stops.
If the Spotter has a faster reaction time (shorter delay) then the HT, he will jump out before the HT starts to move.

I just used FRAPS to capture 1minute of my Tigers advancing under artillery fire.
At 30fps, with sound, at 640x512 resolution, the file ended up over 140Mb. Kind of cool to watch though.
Edit: Compressing the thing helps a bit though. Doh! Standard DivX drops it down to a nice 17Mb, but there is a loss in quality, ofc.

I'm pretty sure Macs have programs like this. Not sure if they are free though.Originally posted by HarryInk:Anyone know of a Mac program to do same?
*LMAO* As if Macs would have such a thing...

Hmmm... 36Mb for 1minute of avi? What resolution? With sound? If your PC can run CMBB, I'm pretty sure it can show a 36Mb avi movie without stuttering. I suspect your frame rate might have dropped under 20fps while filming however, or that the settings for the recorder were set to low.Originally posted by Robert Olesen:I tested it with a full turn replay and it ended up as a 36Mb avi file, but about 25% of that can be removed as it contains leadtime while I switched over to CMBB. Unfortunately my PC is too slow to play it back without stuttering, but I'm fairly sure the quality is OK.
Can you host the movie somewhere so I can look at it?

I just saw the German movie "Stalingrad" for the second time (first time was 10 years ago), and it got me thinking, how "real" is it?

Also, tanks (at least the older ones) are pretty slow. Most can probably be classified as tractors, meaning special rules apply to them in some countries.
You are probably restricted from using high-ways and auto-bahns(sp?) because of the low maximum speed though. And I imagine parallel parking would be a bitch.
Private ownership of tanks is more common then most people think.
