  1. I never said they were terrified of the Germans.

Have you never heard of the appeasement policy?

People like Chamberlain and Halifax(I don't know the name of his position in english, the British Von Ribbentrop, secretary of foreign business?) thought that if they would allow Hitler to ignore the Versailles treaty and to annex Austria and Chzechoslovakia, he would be appeased and stop his 'lebensraum'-policy without a conflict.

If any of them had read 'Mein Kampf' they would have seen that this was impossible for him to do, he was obsessed.

    What was the appeasement policy?

  2. All right, I'll rephrase my point.

Stalin thought that there was more chance of the free democracies UK and France going to war with his regime(in Finland for example)than Hitler, who had installed a similar dicatorship in his country. The Molotov-Von ribbentrop pact clearly shows that Stalin and Hitler had something in common: a greed for expansion. If Hitler would have been a reasonable man, he probably wouldn't have invaded the USSR but he wasn't, he was a psychopat who hated the Russians and wanted to enslave them.

As for the rest of your post, I don't see why you've explained the entire Dow-traffic of 1940 here.

  3. I agree with the fact that the V2's especially played a role in the war and that if the Germans would have had the chance to further develop them(the V3, a long-distance cannon, was found ,unused, by the allies in 1945) they would have played an even bigger part in the war.

But I don't think they would have been equipped with warheads though, German scientists weren't allowed to use 'Jewish science'(so Einstein was out of the question) so in 'their' science the atomic bomb indeed didn't exist.

  4. Just to set things straight.

Greece was just an example,I could just as well have said Turkey or Spain.

    Raven25,

    you're joking, right?

already in WW1 Russia(the large country)had a treaty with Serbia to protect them from Austria-Hungary.

And I'm sure you've heard of the league of nations before.Agreed they had little or no influence on countries but I still think it is wrong to say there were no organizations at all.

    And what about the commonwealth?

I also think you chose a very bad example, after all the invasion of Poland did trigger the war.

Not a bad idea, and who is to say you can't attack to port and hex that the axis troops are in.

    Franco, I can imagine.

There's no way the allies would have risked a DOW from Spain(and probably Portugal) just to blow up some planes or ships that aren't able to attack them anyway.

On the other hand, Franco would have been just as pissed if the axis attacked from out of Spanish territory, then he would be the one risking a DOW from the allies.

  6. Will we be able to retreat out of a war?

e.g.:I invade Greece as the axis while the UK hasn't joined the war yet but they send me a ultimatum(deadline, will this be included in the diplomatic system?)to retreat my troops from greek territory within 3 turns or have a British DOW on my desk on the 4th.Will I then be able to retreat my troops and invalidate my DOW?

Of course Greece would be way more pro-allies then but at that time it will stay neutral.

Also, will we be able to send and receive propositions of peace?

  7. I don't understand what really happened there but...i'll speculate, i suspect that Britain and France knew that they would have to face the Germans soon...and needed more time themselves to mobilize...especially the British.

    Wrong.

those peace-loving idiots of prime ministers(Chamberlain for the UK and Daladier for France) did't want to 'provoce' the Germans and thought that the real danger for world-peace came from Russia, what is even more ridiculous is that stalin thought exactly the same.He was more afraid of the UK than of Germany because he recognized his own regime and methods in them.

Have you ever seen the movie 'mars attack'?

Do you remember the scenes where they're destroying the planet running around with speakers shouting 'don't run, we are your friends'?

Well, I have never seen a better explenation of German pre-war diplomacy.

  8. Spain had a port?!

I dunno,I don't think it's a very good idea to make one of their ports axis or even a tile .It seems very unrealistic to me.

What you could do is this:

If the allies spend a diplomatic chit on Turkey and the war isn't going too badly for them, they can pass and ancher at the port in Istanbul(but it's still neutral).

If the axis spend a diplomatic chit on Spain just after they defeated france.German and Italian air and naval units can be deposited on Spanish territory(incl. ports),where the allies can't attack them without declaring war on Spain.

The axis units can't attack from here either but they can be repaired and locate allied units.

p.s.: meetings between Franco and Hitler didn't go too well,at the end of their last meeting(1940) both parties left angry.

Hitler wanted Spain to join the war after the defeat of France but Franco knew that germany couln't win a full-scale war with the UK.

  9. During WW2 Rockets and Jets were pretty much Rare and because the technology was still expensive and only researched by a few Majors of which few every employed them. V-1s and V2s never played a Major role in the outcome of the war and never would have no matter what.

I must disagree about the rockets-part.

after/at stalingrad rockets were used very often by both the red army and the Germans.

it's true that the US/UK rarely used them but it is very wrong to say that the V1 and the V2 didn't influence the war and never would have.

In 1944 the allies bombed a city(one of the many)and Hitler ordered to strike back at London with V2's.

From this moment on Churchill was constantly afraid of represailles and the UK has admitted that the V1 and the V2 probably slowed down the allied victory in europe for months. They didn't exactly win the war but at that point not even an A-bomb could win it for the Germans.
