  1. Thanks a lot! Great looking site by the way. Cheers!
  2. Noobie question here! Is the Stalingrad pack included with the retail "special edition" release of CMBB? If not, where do I get it? CMMODS.com I presume? Thanks in advance!
  3. Fairly new to CMBB here as well, so I really appreciate the great tips JasonC! I just successfully used my halftracks for the first time while playing "A Deadly Affair" from the Axis side. I used the HT's to move my infantry to the edge of the woods on my right flank and had them disembark in order to clear the woods. Then I rolled the HT's to the left side of the road to cover the tall pines on my left flank. With the decent LOS you get through those tall pines I was able to chew up lots of partisan inf. squads from a comfortable distance with the MG's on the halftracks. I think the key is to make sure you're not exposing them to likely avenues of fire at an early stage. But since I'm a noobie, what the hell do I know! hehe...
  4. This is an interesting idea, but I think it would only really be effective in the larger scenarios. I think (and this is just my personal opinion) that I would get frustrated waiting for my ally to send me his PBEM to see what occurred in a mission that I could easily have coordinated myself. Beating the AI with a friend still wouldn't be as gratifying as actually beating the tar out of that friend instead. My two pesos.
  5. as good as these games are, there must always be a strong reason to buy the next one after all! I personally would love to see a re-visit to the 1944-45 European theatre after the new engine is complete! Viva la Battlefront! (can I have my free version of the next CM now?
  6. WWB... never used hyperlobby so not sure I'm following what you're saying. Personally I wouldn't get into a game of CM without having an opportunity to have some kind of correspondance with my prospective opponent. I know gamespy (in my experience) is usually "click on this to join this game" or such. I personally think an IRC channel is a more than adequate way to find an opponent, but I can understand if some people are simply too busy to persue such avenues. Is Hyperlobby a more personal venue than Gamespy? Just call me "The UnEducated One" if that's necessary
  7. Sounds to me like you need to branch and play more human opponents. If you can thump the AI most of the time, then it may be your best option to ensure unpredictability on the battlefield. The AI is smart, but humans tend to be (well, usually anyways) much more cunning.
  8. I find it funny that people skipped straight to the Middle east as a desired theatre for a CM game down the road. Now, personally I think that conflict is just a little too technologically lopsided to hold much interest for me. The pacific theatre would have been cool, but if they've ruled that out, what about Korea? Or, if you want to get really crazy, what about WWI? That would probably be the easiest conversion as there still wouldn't be a need to develop extra code to simulate airborne warfare (like you would if you went the way of Vietnam say...) You could still have all the cool stuff like tanks and artillery. Just so long as you could come up with scenarios more interesting than just two sides beating the tar out of each other with arty. Lots of possibilities! The mind reels at the thought of it! Great job to everyone at Battlefront!
  9. I'm of the same mind! Takes CMBO and imroves it ten-fold! Battlefront has really mastered the art of making wargames. And I've been really impressed by the solid and generous community it has created as well. Glad to be a part of it!
  10. I've tried several of these solutions to no avail. But they are definately all worthy and I thank everyone for their support. I also apologize for posting in the wrong area. Shows how green I really am! For everyone's reference, I have finally figured out that the sluggish camera movement is actually directly related to how much information is being displayed on the interface. ie. selecting a 12 man rifle squad shows info on the men, their gear, their ammo, etc. and causes the camera to chop considerably. On the flipside, selecting an unidentified enemy unit displays almost nothing (except the "Infantry?" message) and causes the camera to move smooth as silk! So, my last question, is there any way to toggle the interface on and off (as I don't need it to issue movement orders, etc.)? Thanks again to everyone for your help!

  12. I couldn't even fathom playing a match in CM against an anonymous opponent. Getting to know your opponent through PBEM makes the victory (or defeat) that much more fun! And I wouldn't imagine that many of the people on Gamespy would bother to continue correspondance after the match has ended. I cherish the people I have played who I can discuss the battle with after it has ended. It also allowed me to learn a lot about things I did right or wrong, and develop the tactics I use today. Perhaps Ash should just buy XBox Live if he prefers a quick, anonymous game of something frivolous.
  13. Ok, I've been running and enjoying CMBO for quite some time now (since the retail release) and just the other day picked up the retail release of CMBB. For some reason, this game runs very sluggishly. The screen is jerky while I'm moving and scrolling it around, and it gets considerably worse as soon as I actually select a unit in the setup phase. Checking my system performance under my Task Manager, it would appear the CMBB is causing my CPU to run at 100% capacity while the game is running (even just in the orders phase!) WEIRD: This is an edit to the original post. It would seem that my performance varies depending on the type of unit selected. A mortar will allow the screen to scroll fairly smoothly, whereas selecting a rifle squad causes it to become quite jerky. Also changing things like tree coverage has NO impact. Whether there be no trees or extreme trees, selecting the rifle squad causes the slowdown! I am running a Dell PIII 800mhz (the recommended spec) with 512mb SDRAM and a 64 meg Radeon 7000 video card. If anyone has any idea why the game would monopolize the processor the way it does, it would be greatly appreciated! Oh, and the Z-mask is turned off on the video card (a recommended fix under the Troubleshooting guide.) Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
